It's completely personal preference. I for one, hate to not have a case and manual for my games.
I always read through the manual before I play a game, and years later when I want to play an old game I haven't played in a while, I glance through the manuals to decide which game I want.
I also find it very annoying to have games in blank cases on my shelf... though with the PSP your going to have to purchase a game case to store the UMD in - I wouldn't recommend just leaving it around.
Well, being the OCD person that I am, I like having games and manuals. However, the games that I play most often are in a separate 8-capacity UMD case, so it really wouldn't bother me that much. It's truly just personal preference.
Oh, and if you plan to re-sell lots of games, the case and manual will probably add to its value, fyi.
