You should take better care of your PS3. No way I'd ever let any significant amount of dust ever collect on my beautiful 60GB Playstation 3. :P

Same here, I've had a PS3 for three years and it's full of dust. I tried to open it but the screw is on way to tight and it's in the shape of and 8-pointed star with a circle in the middle. WTF!

I've tried that fan thing but got scared because they say it damages your PS3 so I stopped.

Okay, my advice is to get a low powered vacuum. Then, start to suck the dust out of the vents. Just be sure to keep the nozzle a safe distance away from the vents so the vacuum doesnt internally damage the system, but it still sucks out the dust. If you cant get a low powered vacuum, use the one you have in your house, put it on its lowest suction setting, and keep it at a lengthy distance away from the vents while you're cleaning.

Just make sure it's in a well-ventilated area even if your room is ridiculously hot.

Just get a microfiber cloth and make sure the surrounding area is dust free. SOmething as simple as the clothes used in the Swiffer Dusters can be used. Also the compressed air cans are normally either Compressed AIr or a different material used to clean electronic devices that can be damaged by water. Pretty much it will shoot air through your system and hopefully push out any dust that has builded up (i have heard of several others using them before on their consoles but i never have myself sorry) xD was hoping someone who has used them before would comment

Well.. you could always try just using the fan test option? It shoots out all the dust through your vents.

Putting a towel over it when I don't use it. Definitely the easiest way to keep it dust free ;)

Without a doubt.. no matter where you place it, it's always going to accumulate dust. Thats why you have to periodically clean it..

If you keep a towel over it, there's no possible way I know of for it to collect dust. I've been using this method ever since I got my PS3, and I haven't had to clean it once. Why? No dust = No problems :D

I'm guessing this is why my PS3 has lasted me well over 2 years, because I take very good care of it.

See what you need to do now is to stand approx. 1 inch above your PS3. Then, suck in as much oxygen as humanly possible. Next step is to blow really hard until your eyes bulge from your skull and till your veins begin to bleed. Do this for approx.an hour and half and you should be good.

There's a reason the "fan test" is not in the instruction manual, it's not a frikken fan test! If it was, Sony would have graced us the instructions on how to perform said "test". To the TC, once you have a vacuum all you have to do is turn the PS3 off, unplug it, turn on the vacuum, hold nozzle up to all vents for however long you feel comfortable, turn vacuum off, plug PS3 back in, turn it back on, and have at it.

How on earth do some people manage to accumulate sooo much dust in their ps3's?? My friend next door has had his 80gb motorstorm bundle since december 07 and it's full of thiiick dust and he's had a vacuum over it a few times, i've had mine since feb. 08 and never cleaned it and it has a very very samll ammount of dust on the vents, and a few grains in the cable ports.

Dont do this, it can cause a static electric charge which can fry the power supply and other components. Keep vaccumes away from all computers, consoles etc etc.

If your under warranty then dont open the console, but if your warranty ran out then as long as you know what your doing then you can try opening and cleaning it.

"Dont do this, dont do that." Every idea someone has suggested in this thread has been shot down by someone else. Ive been using vacuum cleaners to clean pc's and consoles for years, and i have never had any issues. I had ONE PS2 during the whole ps2 era and never had problems with it. And guess what? I used vacuums on it.

Use a vacume. it will not damnge your system. it will not build up static E. it will not open a black whole that will suck you into it. Plastic does NOT conduct E. Its even recommends it in the frickn PS3 manual. Compressed air is not a good idea as it will force dust deeper into the system and scatter it around. Just use a house vac with a hose atatchment. it does NOT have to be some low power vac lol. they say low power in regards to some dumb *** might try a industreal powered vac. a normal house van or hand vac like a dust buster is what you need.Compessed air may or may not hurt though i cant see were it would be good for the system for resones mentuned. how ever if you look into the vents and see a ton of dust deep in side the system then you may want to try it.

no dont open, take a fan and put it towards the front vents, its rite by the usb holes that charge ur controller rite under the disc tray, i do this during game play to keep the system from overheating
