Should I play the first dissidia game on psp before the sequel 012, is there a point?

No. Just buy the new one. It is a prequel to the first game and has the whole story mode of the first game in it after you beat the game.

Technically Dissidia 012 is a prequel so you need to play it first before the original.

Yeah, the campaign from the first game is unlocked once you beat the game. Pretty sweet.

No. I'm not very far in Dissidia 012 but it's near identical to the first game, which I've spent hours on.

You only get an Aerith assist character, IIRC. I don't think she's worth the 3 bucks.

Don't play either the 1st was bad enough

The second one IS the first game. It just has another story mode, new characters and maps along with music, and updated fighting mechanics.
