I have had my fat 20gb PS3 for over 3 years now. It still works fine although there are a few scratches on the PS3's finish. My question is should I beat my PS3's inevitable death and buy a new 160GB Slim, they're apparently 300 dollars on Amazon, or buy 300 dollars worth of games? My PS3 seems fine but since I've recently started earning lots of disposable cash I've picked up over 10 games that I don't want to be stuck with if my PS3 were to die within the next month.

I've heard that if you have a certain fat PS3 if it breaks you can 100 dollars for a Slim replacement, is that true? If so would I be able to do that from Australia if my PS3 were to break?

Just buy a 160GB HDD and replace you 20GB. You have a 20GB and i am assuming It plays ps2 games. Remember that newer gen ps3's don't play ps2 games!

If it's working, why wold you wanna replace it? Phat is much sexier than slim :D That being said, don't spend ALL of that money. buy 1-2 games to keep you entertained for now and save the rest. Besides, if you buy many games that you can't play right now, you'll regret it because the same games can be bought cheaper later.

It works... so keep it unless you need extra hard drive space. I have a 40GB console - I'm thinking of ordering a 250GB hard drive from Amazon.

Stick with the phat, they are built to last. Might have to clear some memory though, 20Gb is weak.

I got a 60GB May of 2007, but February of 2009 I got the YLOD, sent to Sony and they gave a 60GB refurbished. So far so good with the refurbished for 21 months, but I know I can get the YLOD on a blinking of an eye, so I'm looking for a good deal on a slim.

I think we've all been tempted by a thinner better performing version before, but your phatty is more experienced and is performing well. It knows tricks the thinner version just can't do. Unless you've fallen out of love with it and can't trust it to be faithful, you should keep it.

Blimey, buying a slim is actually being unfaithful. Don't do it!

i know right now sony offers you a refurbished 120gb slim if you have to send in your ps3 for repair and it costs 30$ less. However i am not sure for which PS3's they are doing that for, my 60gb died and i was going to turn it in but could not in the end since i did not have the original HDD.

thats like saying i have a perfectly good computer that can run anything, should i get another one??

the answer, no. you will never know when your PS3 will breakdown. so imo you should save it for something more important.

If you live somewhere nice and cool then your PS3 won't break so soon, my phat is still going strong since i bought at release... Might as well keep it, if it breaks buy a new one, they aint exactly getting any more expensive so who knows, when it breaks the one you want might be even cheaper than it is now.

If it's working, why get another one? Just keep your system and save your money andif it breaks get another one.

I'd Buy the Slim Playstation 3 320giger. Hold on to the original Playstation 3 20giger (Since they are even rarer the even the PS360gigers)
