The 2 year extra plan through the PSN store is only $45.00 - that might be cheaper than the Best Buy offer.

Considering we don't pay for online, paying around $22.50 a year for two years isn't such a bad deal.

meh.......if you go with Sony I believe you have to mail it to them. Best Buy's plan, I believe is a basic switch in store, unless they changed it. I bought it for my last PS3.

I bought it when I got my slim almost two years ago. Haven't had to use it... the slim is reliable.

(Unlike Xboxes which I replaced 3 under their plan...)

Any time I buy something that costs several hundred dollars, paying a little extra for the peace of mind that if anything goes wrong, I can just take it back and exchange it years later - seems like a good deal to me.

I read somewhere that Best Buy actually makes most of their profit from protection plans. I personally don't trust them.

I'd only invest in a protection plan if I was buying something that was over a grand, and even then I'd buy it from the manufacturer, not a store.

I've never had a console break that wasn't replaced by a warranty.
