Should SONY pay Konami to keep MGS4 an exclusive? or do you think they should "call Konami's bluff" and ride this out? Keep in mind, SONY seems pretty "tight" with their cash.

It's not about paying or calling anyone's bluff. The Simple matter of fact is that konami and kojima have spent millions developing this game specifically for ps3, it's huge almost 50gb. In reality, it would be pure stupidity to try and port it over to 360 and use 5 disks in the process. Furthermore, the ps3 is going to be selling like hot cakes this holiday season what with the tons of great exclusives, and the price drop cleary has worked as it's still the top seller on amazon, so hence konami won't need to worry about a fanbase.

I think they should they NEED to lock up MGS4 as an exclusive for the PS3 it's one of the biggest, Konami is also being wack too. They're acting like they're releasing MGS4 right now and they're looking at the sales right now, they should wait until Christmas or something or Q4 before deciding especially since I know people that will buy a PS3 once MGS4 comes out.

Where's the "No, Konami would slap themselves if they thought about leaving the PS3" choice? I'm sure that MGS4 will only be on the PS3. Quote me.

If the option was there I'd pick "No; I couldn't care less about multiplatform games".  I picked "No...." because it is the closest.

i respect Sony for saying that they dont buy exclusives, they earn them, but the truth is that if microsoft goes to Komani with a bunch of cash, Sony will lose it. They need to start paying up to get exclusives.

multiply $50,000 by at least 200 and then maybe Konami will start considering it. $50,000 wouldn't even buy you Snakes dirty underwear; maybe otakon's though.

It takes a lot of money to develop a AAA titles these days. It's probably costing Konami a lot more than $20 mill to create MGS4. MS paid $50 mill for two episodes, that's not even for the game, just episodes.

They should because i mean come on, a LOT of PS3 users are upset on this issue thats is being spread around and if it is true then all is lost, PS3 will not FAIL so get over that.

But yea they are losing exclusives and i really believe that if they lose MGS then all i can say is "$hit happens" As for konami then can go rot in hell if they make this decision.

But it would be in their best interest to just pay them and win it.

Yeah really, Konami of all people should not be the ones to be worried, MGS4 will be a system seller for the PS3, they should not have to worry.

They should realize it would do pretty badly on the 360. Look at how many xbox fans went out and bought MGS2 for it. What makes them think it will change this time around. Most 360 owners just play fps's anyways. Thats what I got mine for, and I got my PS3 for Devil May Cry, MGS, FF, and all of the other great exclusives. Now that 360 is getting all these games my PS3 just collects dust.

Sony needs to do whatever it takes to keep this game exclusive. Jealous people or whoever can sit here and say this game being PS3 only isn't a big deal. But it really is. If MGS4 isn't exclusive, how many truly good reasons can you name to buy a PS3? Wireless internet is a plus, but it's not huge. And don't say the Blu-ray player, because those will become cheaper and cheaper. Today's market is all about money, that's how Microsoft is stealing exclusives and securing their own (did you know Katamari for the PS3 was canned as well?). And I don't know what this nonsense is about how MGS4 can't run on the 360...if Blu-ray were that more powerful, there would be a HUGE jump in graphics on the PS3. I take this view not because I'm against Sony, but because Sony is the only system I would ever want to buy, and this is really a big hit to it. How is it not?

jlabadie-blu-ray isnt the major reason people say it cant run on the 360. sure it will take a hell of a good compression program to make 48 gigs small enough to fit on one dvd9 , but also the game was built from the ground up around the cell and rsx's unique strengths and kojima has stated to port the game they would have to take out major gameplay components

believe me, I believe the same way you do. i think the whole article was bs from a guy who has no say in the game because kojima owns the rights to the franchise. but i still think sony needs to consider at least attempting to play hardball with microsoft from the business perspective

Yes, if Micro$oft is willing to pay rockstar 50 million just for some freaking downloadable content. Sony should sure as hell pay at least 10 million to keep MGS4 exlusive...

Pay them for what?? NEver liked MGS , even thouth like sony over microsoft, so personally i don't care about a MGS4. I hoping to buy PS3 any time soon ecpesially with price drop, and games like Killzone and God Of War 3 is enough for me. So konami can kiss my a.. and close dispute. And that guy with glasses TAkashima Hiramoto PEnchala Ykavrona can go back and make sushi.

Absolutely. The business of video games has changed and with the rising cost of development it only makes sense that if a company is going to go exclusive and give up the chances of selling across all the platforms that whichever platform they become exclusive to should pay up part of the cost.

I don't think any company should pay for exclusivity but it might be in Sony's best interests to do so at this point as if they don't Microsoft certainly will. After all, they've already paid $50 million just for exclusive downloadable content.

Sony should do wat ever they can to keep MGS4 only for the ps3. Thats their ace in the hole, they cant afford to lose it. If they do then this system war is over.

Well in the article, he said that MGS series might go multi-platform. I don't think he's talking about MGS4 though because of its size. It could be a timed exlusive, who knows. Funny thing is that Sony is producing their movie so I don't know whats gonna happen.

I think SONY shouldn't pay them, instead, they should just cut the sales share they have on MGS4 and let Konami have some bigger share of the sales revenue.

Here is an example to explain things.

Lets say I have a farm. With the rising costs of labor, water, and energy it is becoming moredifficult for me to grow crops. My crops are a favorite in the town I sell too and grocery stores would love to have an exclusive agreement with me. Now, I could sell my crops to all of the grocery stores and pretty much guarantee profits for myself and enough to continue farming or I could sell them to one grocery store only and make just enough to get by. But, if one of the grocery stores offered to pay for some of my farming costs in order to gain my exclusivity, knowing that the quality of my produce would draw in more customers and sales, then I'd be more willing to accept such an agreement.

It's all about the money. Konami will do what they believe is best for their profits. I am a 360 owner, but I really hope that they don't port the game to the 360. I remember what happened to Substance on the original XBox and don't want to see another glitchy MGS port. I love MGS and kind of want it to be an excuse for me to buy my PS3.

Sony shouldn't have to pay Konami, the fanbase is on the PS brand, its not even close to the release so they shouldn't worry, their are tons of people who bought PS3 for this game, that will buy PS3 for this game, and that will buy PS3 when and after its out, they dont need to worry the slightest bit...besides Sony is paying for their MGS movie...good luck having them do that once you switch it to multiplatform besides it was designed for PS3, Hideo will put up a fight, and if it does go multiplatformwell goodbye to the amazing relationship that goes back a long way and....all hell will break lose

I think that it is sad that the gaming industry is coming to this. It's really just, for lack of a better term, a bribe. I will pay you this much money to bring your product over to my platform. Its BS!!!, but since a certain company has already done this once to gain exclusive content, it probably will never stop. So if this is what sony would have to do to keep this exclusive, i say yes they should.

Of course they should pay Konami! This is the biggest exclusive they have (at least in 2007-2008), and is a console mover! It was one of the main reasons I bought a PS3, and SONY should pay them if they want to sell lots of PS3's and if they don't wanna lose an exclusive as big and important as this one. They said they would gonna earn the exclusives but I think they should not take a risk and secure the exclusivity (at least with this game, cause I think that what they said about earning them is really good and far better than getting exclusives just because of the money)

It would be more than 50k. Killzone's budget is $40 million, and MGS4's budget is probably close to that. But Sony should pay.

I think so. Before you guys jump down that slippery slope let me say that for major system selling IPs, I absolutely feel Sony should pay to keep it exclusive. "Bu Bu Bu...it's sets a horrible precedent." Not really. There aren't that many games like MGS. In fact, of the system sellers, I'd say only MGS, FF, and GTA are up there. It's costly but it's worth it. As is, Sony is putting all their cards on people wanting a PS3 for their inhouse exclusives when they could put it on MGS4 exclusive, FF exclusive, AND all the great Sony games. Nothing is said yet and MGS4 is still exclusive as of right now, so we'll just have to wait and see. But yeah, Sony should pay for exclusives for system sellers.

This has probably been said already, but, because of the late start and because of the lack in content at this point in time, Sony should pay anyone and everyone that is willing to develope console selling exclusive titles. This would be a whole different story if Sony had released the PS3 around the same time as the 360 but they didnt. They have now lost a number of exclusive titles and seem to be on their way to loosing more.

Sony needs to start investing in our investment. If we as console owners are expected to invest hundreds if not thousands of dollars in a console we should expect the manufacture to invest 10 times more making it a console worth having. Sure they invested in its creation and developement but they need to keep it going. I think the PS3 is off to a good start, but it could always be better. I happen to own both the PS3 and 360 and I must say I am truely pulling for the PS3...
