I don't know about you guys but I hate the messaging system they put in place. It feels so clunky and wierd. I think this should be the next thing Sony should work on for their new firmware. What do you guys think?
I agree. While the message system does do its job, it could be drastically improved upon. First of all, I'd like to use the XMB in PS1 and PS2 games. Besides that, there are some pretty clunky navigating issues associated with the whole messaging system.
It's a bit inconvient, seeing how when u press X on your friend's name, it shows your their profile; it'd be convenient for them to make an option where you can press X to access the message list; this often times throws me off during a cod5 match when im trying to send a quick message =/
I like it, its reliable and quick. I have no complaints. Although its been said that voice chat while doing some browsing on the net or something would be nice, but even with just chat the voice is a little unstable.
I want to be able to do everything i want in-game xbm, like go to the web, go to the PSN store, listen to music and view pictures and other things to past time while not getting out of the game...and make it run just as smooth..thats all i really want;)
I always think this. I always press X too, even though I have done it a million times it just feels more natural than having to press triangle everytime.
It makes the XMB look untidy, and serves next to no purpose, considering you can achieve most of the same effects by starting a slideshow from the xmb, and selecting some music. we need the option to remove unused icons i reckon. And does anyone remember that before 2.40, you used to be able to just press X over your friend's name, and be taken to messages? To me, thats a lot more useful than seeing their profiles.

Before the in game XMB update, you hit the "X" button and it went to the message list. I wan't that back :cry:
I have no problem with the current messaging system. It does what it's meant to do, get messages from point A to point B in a reasonable amount of time. It wasn't intended to be used as instant messaging, more of an email esque system. I guess it would be nice if they streamlined it a bit more, but as of now that's not on my list of complaints.
The messaging system is great! easy to send messages an reveive quickly. And to the people who want to go to the playstation store or get on the internet dont you think that the ps3 would be working to hard to do that? The only improvment needed is music and view pictures.
i dont even know why they didnt just put a headset with it... i mean i have all 3 systems so im not a fanboy of any of them. but ive been reading a lot of people mute people all the time online playing.im not really sure why this is. kids want to send a message during play i dont know about you but its hard enough running around trying to kill the other team let alone type to a friend and do it.
what i think would be cool is the option to listen to music while your firmware updates. recordable chat messages would also be a cool feature. i think they should also do somthing to increase the volume of the headset. I dont mind what they did for the photo album but it's time to get back to basics focusing the the hardcore gamer. I think they should take everything that their competition did with xbox live and enhance the experience.
what they should do is add an "invite friend" button like the 360 has so that we dont have to rely on devs implementing it into games as its already there

That would be cool but I doubt that would ever happen given how little ram the PS3 has.
they should just slap together some sort of MSN type messaging feature.. that would actually be quite good for PS3americahellyeah
agree entirely! tht would really be awesome! and is the single thing that i hope they do! i dont really mind much for in game chat but it would be nice :P
