By this I mean should Sony start playin hardball like Microsoft? Microsoft buys out DLC and exclusives. And they get all multiplats made for their system first. Ps3 is clearly a better system but in a marketing stand point they are failing. Should Sony start getting games exclusive and getting exclusive DLC and throughing around money?

No, because then they'd be like Microsoft.

I like to not think of the company I support as money-grubbing, power-hungry bastards.

I don't want motion sensing remotes and $50 online fees.

I just want games.

It is my expierence at Gamecrazy that Sony's exclusives are just fine. Yeah, the 360 does get ALOT of exclusives. However, look at this way, beacuse this is what customers tell me. When a game comes out for BOTH platforms, the 360 seems to accelerate...BUT the PS3 has the best exclusives available to it. Infinite Undiscovery, Gears, and Zoid's Assault haven't reached the amount of sells that Metal Gear Solid 4 has. Just hold on buddy... Resistance will take on Gears 2, and Killzone 2 will finally put Halo 3 out of action. Our time will come, my friend.

* grabs shield and battle axe and runs to the front door* The only thing Sony needs to do better is the marketing of their games. I feel Sony sometimes misses the opportunity to get the word out when they need to.

To be quite honest, at the store, we get Sony promotionals more than Microsoft. You ought to see all the Resistance goodies we have...and we only have one measly 3d Gears poster. So I think Sony beats Microsoft there. Forget television commericials...HIT THE STORES!

I thought Gears of War had higher sales than MGS4. I thought Gear was about 4.5 million and MGS was around 3.5 million last time i looked. How much was the sales figures on MGS4?

TC i think Sony should have put their hand in their pockets and paid to keep Final Fantasy a PS3 exclusive because this game going to the 360 hurt the PS3. People know that the 360 has a bigger RPG line up but didn't mind so much as they thought one of the favorite RPG games series Final Fantasy would be a PS3 exclusive. When it went to the 360 then it just made the PS3 look even weaker for RPG fans.

I think sony should invest in DLC for there own exclusive games before they start to look at buying multi-plate exclusives.

Sony has used the same hardball tactics as MS when they first came on the market and had to go against the very popular Saga and Nintendo. At the end of the PS2 life Sony had no real competition for games so they didn't need to continue to buy exclusive right to games. It sSony own fault that they just assumed games would stay exclusive to the PS3 without giving any money to these companies to stop them selling on other system to increase there profits.

Microsoft runs commercials non-stop constantly on nearly every channel. Whereas I may see a PS3 game commercial once a day watching television, I see 360 game commercials nearly every commercial break. Do you think that marketing in store is more likely to sell something to a reletively non hardcore or non casual gamer, or getting a person who rarely goe's to a gaming store excited and hyped for a game without even leaving there home. Sony needs to market there games more fiercly and competetively across the entire spectrum.

forget buying exclusives and dlc sony need to advertise it.

ok maybe its different in other countrys but when was the last time you seen an advert for the ps3 in a newspaper or tv or anywhere? not since the 40gb came out. i didnt see 1 single advert for mgs4 which is a shame because not all people check gaming news and if they saw this game it might make them want a ps3. ive never seen 1 ps3 ad where they say its a blu ray player they never advertise nothing.

on the other hand i see adverts for the 360 all the time. any multi play game thats on there is always the xbox 360 logo after it and no ps3 logo. this is why sony are doing so bad. not only are microsoft getting a lot of ps3 exclusives to become multi plat but sony arent even showing off the exclusives they do have

MS don't get them games made for them first. It is just easier to make the game for them. PS3 requires more programing.

If you've read the news carefully over the past year youll notice its only Microsoft who are steppng up there game. Two pirce cuts, Elite version which was supposed to match the 40 GB PS3(it failed mserably though), HDMI port and buying out exclusives make the Xbox 360 appeal more the people then the rather overpriced yet brilliantly made and produced PS3. What ends up happenng?, The PS3 narrows the gap from 10 Million consoles behnd the 360 to 4.5 in two years. So really Sony is winning from doing nothing while Microsoft is struggling.

I think think that this has already happened, no? MGS4, Uncharted, MLB: The Show, HeavSword, Motorstorm, KZ, R:FOM are all exclusives (both here and on the way), and many more besides. Bioshock has extra content not available on the 360.

Let me ask this: between the current and upcoming exclusives AND all the multiplats that the PS3 has (yes, multiplats do count as playable games), who out there can play them all? Who has that much money/time to blow? I just don't understand it.

This is few things Sony must do.

1. Get a new advertising team. Their TV commercials and magazine ads are HORRIBLE.

2. Develop better relationship with 3rd party developers. With difficult hardware to develop games for, and rather arrogant approach towards 3rd party developers resulted into very poor relationship with them and Sony. Capcom is showing negative reaction towards Sony in this generation, and Square also shows not so good relationship with Sony. Sony must reconnect with them by friendlier approach by helping them out with development tools and better deals.

3. STOP MAKING FPS. Let your first party developers make something else for a change. Just look how much positive reaction Little Big Planet is getting. Sony needs to invest their money into other genre games in order to catch up.

4. MAKE JRPGS. Microsoft is starting to get a lot of attention thanks to flood of JRPGs. In the past, it was ALWAYS the case that the dominant console had most JRPGs. JRPGs always has been deciding factors for success of a console and Sony themselves enjoyed great success thanks to JRPGs. Why shut them out now when it is proven success method? Even now, on Sony console, one of the most anticipated game is Persona 4.

Those are the four things Sony needs to do immediately to get back in this market.

Quite sorry...I am speaking on behalf of the German numbers. In Germany, my homecountry, and in Russia, Metal Gear Solid 4 is HUGELY popular. Yeah, we do have to import most of our games, but hardly anybody over here has a 360. So I was only assuming that the numbers were somewhat the same in America. Gosh, this whole American internet thing is messing me up. Things are different here, than in Germany, I apologize.

I totally agree. Their trying to do the honorable thing and wait for developers to come to them, but I think they need to wait until their console is more popular before they can start doing that. I reckon that they should focus on decent advertising, which the PS3 hasn't seen much of at all...

The sales figures i mentioned was for worldwide sales. If your going to stat a fact based on one contry only then you have to say that at the start on gamespot as their is a lot of people from different contries who use gamespot.

Just to make it more confuing with the World internet thing is that am from Scotland.

Forget marketing, every potential customer out there knows about the Playstation brand, first they need better games first and they need to do something about the PSN. Don`t matter if it`s free, people are willing to pay for a good online service, that`s why LIVE is crushing PSN in numbers... aren`t they charging for early demos allready, lol, that`s treating customers like idiots. "It`s free... but" gtfo

They need more titles like KZ2 and LBP... high quality... "good" games like Resistance doesn`t cut it against the MS monsters like Halo and GOW.

The hardware is exellent, now the games and online service must follow.

As for the original question I think that sony is more concerned with finding profit by eliminating additional expenses, than creating expenses in a vain effort to copy micro$oft tactics. I do agree from a consumer standpoint that it is upsetting to see all downloadable content going to the other side..
