If you like rhythm games then try out dj max portable 1 and 2, gitaroo man, and parappa the rappa. They work really well on the psp as in guitar hero doesnt. I tried the ds version and its mildly entertaining for the first day but i wouldnt buy it for the long term use.
I don't think it would work very well on the PSP. I have the DS version and it's great but I just can't imagine it on PSP because the DS has both the dual screens and a touch screen which are both big parts of the game. Gamespot's review of Guitar Hero DS is horrible. He just complains about hand cramps which is a personal problem of his because I don't have any problems like that. IGN's review is better by a long shot.
The reason why it works (mechanically, at least) on "That Other Hand-Held" is the touch screen which takes the place of a strum bar on the guitar controller, they would have to make a rediculous add-on for it to work on the PSP, and then there's the problem of Righty vs. Lefty play... interesting to consider, but I think at the end of the day it would be too involved to try and get'R'done.
And to the post that castigated the thread for "learning something real", why are you even on this website? I'm sure Guitar Player Magazine has forums you could hang out in and actually CONTRIBUTE rather than rip on other people's choice of hobbies or expertise... and before you comment on how gaming is a waste of time to perfect as a skill, look up how many GH competitions there are out there FOR MONEY PRIZES being held around the world every week... I bet there are a few people out there who will back me up when I say that gaming for a living is not a laughing matter anymore, and that pro gamers WILL become a legitimate option for making a living, if it isn't a forgone conclusion already. All of the major networks here in the U.S. are featuring pro gaming tournaments on television this fall, and you have the MLG and the CGS...
I've been a professional in the music business for the last twenty-one years, working in recording studios and mixing live concerts (and yes, I play guitar, mandolin, and a few other instruments, I've written and recorded two CDs worth of material and played out in clubs for DECADES so I know from whence I speak), and I can tell you that working really hard on playing your guitar will get you all KINDS of nowhere when it comes to making money or "getting somewhere in life"... passing judgement on this hobby vs. YOUR hobby is ignorance unbridled.
Dear Ston3henge,
That bit about how working at guitar skills will get you nowhere amuses me. What about all the new bands who clearly didn't work at developing any impressive skill at all, and are now rolling in the millions? And don't forget the bands who have VERY talented guitarists who have gotten big as well.
This is totally unrelated to the topic, and I apologize, but I don't see how you can say that.

Apparently, he (Ston3henge) thinks that in 10 years we will all be paying $100 per ticket to pack into a crowded arena to watch some guy play GH that can play the toughest song on the highest difficulty level.

Ha! Well... I guess in a sense what you say could be correct when posited to certain critical circles, but trashing on a kid's taste in music somewhat undermines my argument... as an older gamer and musical-whatever (mainly a sound engineer by trade), I might be inclined to agree with you off of this board, over a beer or something (though I quit years ago, so maybe I'd just buy YOU one)... but what I may think of "Band X", etc. isn't germane to the conversation... and for the record I admire Steve Jones as much as I dig Django Reinhardt, for diferent reasons... Steve proved you could string three chords together and still make it expressive, and the recently lost-to-us Bo Diddley (who influenced the structure of just about ALL popular music nowadays) would back me up on that for sure...
But look... I've been in this business for a long time, and I've worked with a TON of talented people... some of them, the very elite, are able to reach the level where they get millions of bucks... the MAJORITY go un-noticed or under-paid for their efforts. For every Dave Mathews, there are a zillion bands who don't make a dime... I've heard some of the best songs in a bar populated by five people including the bartender, and I started taking a tape deck with me to work at the clubs over the years in order to capture some of this stuff with the idea of sharing it with the audience it so richly deserves, but never found, somehow someway in the future... when anyone gives a rat's pah-toot to hear me out and give it a listen...
I've got no reason to lie to you-all about any of this... the guys out there who make their money out of duping the public via MTV might want you to believe that there's a glossy, classy life out there for you if you just practice hard and groom well, but the reality of it is you'll find that playing jingles for commercials will be the most profitable road open to you, even if you rawk harder and more proficiently than anyone who came before you... grabbing the Brass Ring is statistically impossible, you have a better chance of getting killed by a lightning strike than you do becoming a star...
... but ya gave this ol' dog a laugh, and I thank you deeply for it! :D
Take 'er easy, and may the road rise with you!
