As you may know these controllers are Li-thon based. Sony as included the how to replace them but these batteries are very costly unless you search for sites that sell them cheap.

1. the controller will have a average lifespan of 2-3 years, Li-thon batteries are dying every second because thats how they work.

2. If you game 2 hours a day or more, charge the controller when the last bar is left. If you charge the controller to much you mess up the calabration of the controller. Meaning telling you how much of the battery is left until the next charge. But dont do this every time. let the controller reach the last bar once a month, charging it at the end can also lead to a shorter span.

3. Meaning if you charge the controller once a week do it at the 2 bar, then the last month of the week. Let the controller reach the last bar to ensure a steady charge and keeps the controller in a cycle.

4. Also tips on places for buying a new controller, dont go to big chain stores. Use newegg, or if you have a membership to costco, their only 40 dollars. if you dont live in CA, newegg is the best choice, shipping is cheaper then tax, only CA and one other state get taxed. This is a alternative if you dont have a membership to costco. if you wish to confrim any of the info i said, and don't believe me. Just google li-thon batteries, their all the same. Just depends the decive their placed it in that use more juice. Well happy gaming!

Or you can send it to Sony who replaces the batteries for free, or open the controller up and do it yourself.

BS. Lithium Ion batteries only have a limited number of recharge cycles. Its best to keep them topped up if possible. LI-ion does NOT have the memory effects that NiMH and NiCd had. Deep cycling is NOT good for Li-ion.

There's no point in doing this anyways, by the time your sixaxis dies you'll have been itching to replace it with dual shock's for 2 years :P Just top it up when you aren't playing. Thats the best you can do. Deep cycle BAD for li-ion batteries. Its not something you want to do intentionally.

I don't charge stuff until I absolutley must charge it.
Basically leaves stuff on zero bars of battery life then charging it.

Where can I learn more about "Deep cycling", and how to take the best care of my Li-ion, and other rechargable batteries?
