My question is what is the pros cons of it as a blu ray player versus a standalone? I havent been able to find anything about this online. I figure if Im gonna buy a standalone blu ray player i might think about getting a ps3 if its comparable. I have read it doesnt do 24 fps in movies what other drawbacks are there to it? Thanks and btw if there is a sticky about this i couldnt find it thanks!

It DOES do 24fps. The PS3 is actually one of the best players if not THE best out there. It is the only one(I think) that receives firmware updates.

If you're not going to play games, why not just wait for the $200 blu-ray player that is coming out soon?

With firmware updates the PS3 is the best Blu-Ray player and DVD upscaler. Sony keeps making the PS3 better with these firmware updates. For the few months I have had my system there have been several very nice updates, I have the 60 gig with the EE chip and the PS2 games have gotten so much better from that time.

There are a handful of games i want to play also resistance looks and sounds cool. I have a wii and 360 with hd dvd add on. I figure if it does blu ray decently ill be spending the money anyway. Can you use any hdmi cable or is it ps3 specific? Also what audio does it support?

Supports up to 7.1 uncompressed PCM through HDMI

Does NOT support DTS HD 7.1

5.1 through optical

Another issue I will have playing games is I am long weened off the ps controller layout.lol But I love shooters and resistance and killzone(if it turns out like the vids) will be cool. Also mgs4 thats about the only games i am interested right now. Thanks for the info guys.
