..and I've only just realized it's a PS3 exclusive.

But seriously, here in the Netherlands this game was immensely popular and made people actuallybuy PS2's, and I'm talking small kids and mums which is a powerfull part of the consumer base. I can only imagine this games' popularity being similar in other countries. So, do you agree Singstar will be a system seller?

Its definately a game that interests alot more than just the hardcore gamer. With the new online system, Singstar will definatlely be a system seller. I'll be definately getting it.

I dont think it will be in the US yet. Are kids are more like dark stuff, sit back with a substance you smoke, and shoot people online like paintball. And do it over and over, hours apon hours lol. Not all, some love good stories and stuff to, but a good percentage just kinda dont get it yet this Gen. Im sure they will sooner or latter.Maybe latter when a PS3 coast like 200 in 4 years, everyone will do it. But im sure places like Japan will just eat it up.

Im sure it will move up "the PS3 as a whole" just a tiny bit. I dont think it has shown off enough to nail this Christmas. I think you have to have MGS 4 and Killzone and Maybe FF in the library already to have the huge holiday ""they will have."" But Im not sure it will be this one. I think they gain momentum threw 08 with some great stuff. You know the hardwear will start to show its stuff some. And with the library of 08 added with the new games going into Holiday 08. And plus HOME being fully working and fixed a few times. Plus HoME with the online singing and videos is what will be big. Thats when all who did not yet, will get the big urge to. But they will miss out on when some of these good games hit all threw 08.

SingStar is very popular in Europe, but the high price of the PS3 prevents the game from selling a lot of systems. Maybe the 40 GB version will change that, but the casual audience won't spend $600 just for the next SingStar, when PS2s are rather cheap in comparison.

I don't see Singstar as a system seller in most countries. Not in the US for sure. Even a popular game doesn't mean it's a system seller.

The thing is though, despite it's cheaper price tag, and the fact that it only focuses on Singing, how does this game equal Rock Band? where you can also sing as well as play several other instruments and or play along with friends. How is Singstar in any way better than Rockband or more of a system seller than Rockband? Despite the obvious of if you like one games track list more than the other.I'm serious, I'm not trying to be sarcastic or mean, just asking.

It seems to me that Singstar is much more accessible than the other game. The fact that it might be a system seller imo is that it caters to a previously untapped part of the consuming population: small kids and their mums. This is the part of the gaming public among which this game is very popular here in the Netherlands. I don;t see them playing all kinds of instruments, but I do see them Singing in a game. More like Idols induced popularity you know. I feel Singstar is more casual and will therefore appeal to a larger crownd.

I used to work at a store called HMV over in the U.K before moving back to the states and let me tell you..over there singstar IS a system seller. Here in the US..no way..that spot is for FF series, Halo, series, Killzone 2, MGS4, Gears Of WAr

I don't know what Netherlands you come from but I can't remember it being a huge succes in our country. But it doesn't really matter as the Wii took that audience away this generation.

I don't think it's a system seller at all. I do think that some people may pick up the game, but a ps3 seller? No.

Just cause you don't know it was succesfull here does not mean it wasn't, my friend. And how could the Wii have taken away that audience if Singstar is PS3 exclusive?

Just type in Singstar in the game search bar here on GS and see how many versions were made for the PS2. Only a very succesful game will have so many addons/sequels.

Singstar is most certainly a system seller, for the simple fact that the downloadable content (they're promising something like 600-800 songs available on day one) makes it the most expansive karaoke setup you can get, short of a professional karaoke disk library.  Couple it with Little Big Planet and Home, and a lot of casual gamers will be picking up PS3's.

I think a lot of us on this forum have skewed perspectives-- we only see things from the hardcore side.  You've got to look at the big picture.  PS3 isn't a hardcore system or a casual system; PS3 does it all.  Giving players the option of hardcore titles like UT3 and MGS4 along with more casual blockbusters like SingStar and Rock Band can only increase the user base.

this game is the reason europe prefers the playstation brand, it has done rediculously well over there.
