I was much more excited after the conferance. Sony has done a lot more than I thought they would and they've made some very good decisions with the PS4. The highlights were
-Developer friendly
-Being able to record video of gameplay to share with friends on the fly
-fast and smooth access to your games on the PS4 including the ability to play video games that you haven't even finished downloading.
-inFAMOUS Second Son
I'm really excited now.
Sure I was disappointed in Final Fantasy Versus XIII, The Last Guardian, Agent, Half-life 3, Kingdom Hearts 3, Persona 5, Metal Gear Solid 5 not being there (I think you get my point)
In terms of specs, their envisioned social integration and more, I was completely satisfied.
That hardware is a HUGE deal when it comes to development cycles and optimizing multiplats, not to mention the PS4 and PC are looking to share a LOT of titles coming up (think about how 360 got titles like Alan Wake, Witcher and Left 4 Dead).
Not to mention that is some crazy third party support showing.
Granted most of the games shown that I'm interested in today I won't be playing on PS4 but the prospects are hype-inducing indeed.
Falcom, From Software, Atlus, Level 5, Namco Bandai... I'm expecting very big things from them
bunch of crappy shooters

Good to know you won't be buying one...
Oh shut up. They showed one shooter. Imbecile. I didn't know what to expect and was pleasantly suprised by the conference. It looks a fantastic system; more than a worthy successor to the Ps3 and worthy of carrying the mantle for the next generation of consoles and games.bunch of crappy shooters

Best conference I've seen in a long time, hyped up about the PS4 now more than ever, can't wait!

Yeah, I'm very surprised at the reactions here. This conference and the PS4 in general greatly exceeded my expectations. I can see myself falling in love with those features they described. Microsoft have a lot to live up to here.

Because Sony wasn't going to showcase a KZ game on their new system, the series was basically a tech demo for the PS3, and the series is really good at intesnse shooters, so it should be a good title. And we all knew about Beyond (granted, not what platforms it would be on) so that shouldn't have been a surprise. And the rest weren't shooters, so calm down.

Seriously, it's criminal to get someone hooked on the PS and PS2 for turn based JRPGs, that the systems were known for, and they make those types of games into my favorite subgenre, AND THEN THEY JUST TAKE MY FAVORITE TYPES OF GAMES AWAY AND I CANNOT GET NEW ONES!!!!!
Soundcellx for you
Namco Bandai - Tales Games
Square Enix
Falcom - Ys series
From Software - Souls games
Level 5 - Ni No Kuni, Dragon Quest VIII, Rogue Galaxy
Atlus - Persona, Shin Megami Tensei
Yes there are some big time JRPG devs on board with this system
Namco Bandai - Tales Games - they're great but they're not turn based
Square Enix - they suck and have not made a good game for like 10 years. They are massive trolls and they ruined the Final Fantasy series, and they ruin everything they touch
Falcom - Ys series - Y's Seven was great. NOT turn based tho.
From Software - Souls games - Dark Souls is the best game in the last 6+ years, but it is NOT turn based
Level 5 - Ni No Kuni, Dragon Quest VIII, Rogue Galaxy - never tried Rogue Galaxy (last gen), DQVIII (last gen) was alright a bit boring tho, Ninokuni is not proper turn based. It is NOT traditional turn based style.
Atlus - Persona, Shin Megami Tensei - meh

dude, when has any console ever launched with rpg titles? it's not like it's a surprise or anything. they have to appeal to the mass first, and the mass is FPS shooters and social networking. which was obviously the focus of this presentation, the social aspect of next gen. as ive said before, the rpgs and just the better games in general always come later, when it's a couple years well into the gen.
they are obviously holding off a lot until E3. they didn't even show what the console looked like. i just hope they have a better variety of games this gen and every game looks as amazing as killzone shadowfall. that looked like some true next gen sh1t right there.

Dude, the PS3 launched SEVEN YEARS AGO.
Still not a single proper turn based JRPG on PS3. Seven years I have been waiting for the reason why I bought a PlayStation 3 in the first place. I bought a PS3 for turn based JRPGs, and I have been TRYING to be patient, but COME ON! it's been seven whole freaking years and NOTHING!
You can't fault me for being angry about waiting seven whole freaking years for turn based JRPGs, that used to be rampant on the PlayStation brand. They get you hooked and then they yank them away...FOREVER!

If I remember correctly the combat was turn based, though you had limited time to execute your actions. That's the closest thing to a proper turn-based RPG that's been released so far on he PS3. Kinda sad really, the old-school FF defined my childhood. :|

I grew up on turn-based rpg myself but I have came to conclusion that traditional JRPG had died out after PS2. It's sad but I would suggest turning to the handhelds for the nostalgic turn-based combat.
To be honest with you, It's time to drop the PS3 doesn't have my favorite genre and move on with your life. I'm not trying to be mean or dissrespecful but seriously, it's time to move along, you can always blog it to the world.
I kinda like the future of Playstation 4. Sony has some interesting ideas. If this pans out? I is really difficult to say. It is only 2013. So in 2020 we shall see. I promised I would make it to Playstation 9. So another 6 years with Playstation 4. Sony will have things sorted out.
Or i may be expecting too much.

In other words, until any company announces a new turn based RPG, you are going to keep calling every gaming event casual crap with no substance. Your loss. I fail to see how Drive Club, Infamous Knack, Diablo 3, Deep Down, or Watch Dogs are shooters, but ok, move along.
Looks promising for the most part, interested to see what they have for E3, some nice (J)RPGs from top developers would be awesome.
Why do people always complain about conferences being disappointing just because their favorite game was not announced? I do not know why anyone thought that information involving Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts would come out at a conference in New York. I do not even know how people could be disappointed. I thought the conference was just going to be about a few upcoming PS3 and Vita plus a small reveal about the PS4. The conference ended up being about the PS4 completely. There were new IP's announced like Drive Club, Knack, and Deep Down. We also got reboots of current franchises like Killzone and Infamous. The platform ditches the cell architecture in favor of a simpler format so that developers do not have any problems. Most major developers seem to be interested in PS4, so that is a good sign for third party support. Sony has always had trouble courting PC developers like Valve and Blizzard to work on PlayStation platforms in the past, but now Diablo 3 is coming to the PS4. Even if that particular game is not well liked, this still is a very positive thing for Sony.
The system is obviously going to have games plus more social communication with other players. What more could people ask for? Sony is not going to blow its entire load and leave nothing for E3.

How would you feel if you bought a console for fighting games or something, and after you bought it you find out that they're dead. How would you react and move on?
I am very pissed about it and I am fighting back. Hell, I spammed the PlayStation blog about it, since Sony abandoned their JRPG gamers with those inferior shooters.
I find it highly offensive, that most people here think I should NOT be mad about game developers just dropping my favorite subgenre like a rock without warning. I should NOT be mad?????????????!!!! Seriously????

agreed. i realised that this genre was dead a while ago, and ive moved on to WRPGs. im not dissapointed cuz they are great games in their own right. but the ps2 days are done man, if you want those anime type of turn based rpgs and stuff you should probably look into handheld gaming like this dude said. also i think wii still has those type of games. i dunno it's wierd i thought my favourite genre of games was jrpgs cuz of FFX and FF12. but i realised that those games are different from all the other jrpgs cuz they are not all anime'd out. and then when ff13 came out i realised that it's only square that has games like those, the jrpgs that aren't all anime-ish. but yeah dude, u just gotta move on or get into handheld stuff if you want those type of games i guess. i originally got ps3 cuz i thought ff13 was gonna be exclusive. then they dropped the ball on that one, so then i got a ps3 for the free online and blu ray (which i never really use, but it's nice having the option). and i eventually narrowed it down to just getting the ps3 cuz i liked the controller better and the system looked sexier than an xbox lol.[QUOTE="Sokol4ever"]

There is a time and place for expressing your frustrations and anger, however, this forums isn't an answer. Openly being against 90% of PS3 gaming library isn't going to bring back magically traditional JRPG genre back to the console.
If anything, you're, maybe unintentionally, annoying the rest of the gamers who truly are enjoying their diversify genres. You might not agree on those facts and that's fine, you're entitled to your opinion but you're not being objective nor rational towards others. Look closely at your replies to different people, it's completely disrespectful to them as well.
I'm all for "Fighting the good fight" for what you believe, my suggestion however, would be writing an official letter to the people who have the power to make changes.

But what about the millions and millions of other people who love turn based JRPGs and are mad that the PS3 does not have any?
Well, it does not matter that I may annoy other gamers, because those gamers annoy me that they helped kill off my favorite subgenre of gaming. It was very disrespectful for others to kill off the JRPG genre.
Anyhow, I am trying to raise awareness, and rally forth those who feel the same as me. Hell, I see and hear complaints left and right that modern gen JRPGs just suck, and there's hardly any good ones these days. A lot of people are upset and very disappointed with them, modern Final Fantasy and Squeenix, in particular.
Hell, Squeenix are huge trolls and I think they are making Final Fantasy bad on purpose. Also, trolling fans with Versus, it was ridiculous at the PS4 announcement how Squeenix trolled people about an announcement of an announcement at E3.

He is the biggest whiner I have ever seen online.
why would they come out with a bunch of JRPGs? they have to appeal to the mass first. and the mass is social media and FPS shooters and explosions and stuff. if you notice they tried to showcase 1 of every type of genre. FPS-killzone, Platformers-knack, racing-drive club, sandbox-infamous and im assuming deep down is an rpg, well atleast i hope it is. and for action adventure they had like watchdogs and stuff. you really think they are going to come out and release a bunch of JRPGs on launch?
like the above poster said, they're not that popular and don't sell well. only in japan im guessing. thats why everyone praised Ni No Kuni like it was the most amazing thing ever. it got to the point where everyone just got desperate as hell for a JRPG that they would play anything. JRPGs used to be my favourite genre too back in the ps2 days because of FFX and FFXII. but those were the only ones that weren't all wierd and anime'd out. then i realized that it's only square that makes those more mature type of JRPGs, but FF13 was underwhelming so this gen ive moved on to WRPGs like skyrim and mass effect.
