[QUOTE="GIJames248"] [QUOTE="GARRYTH"]i think with an open world game needs blu-ray i now oblivion was big but it was the same structures, trees, caves, textures ect. if it was made for the ps 3 only im sure each city, caves, ect. would all look differant. each building would of been differant colors ect.GARRYTH
If you want unique resources in games the size of Oblivion good luck. I have the computer version and it clocks in at 5 gigs, well under the 15 or so gigs that can be put on a DVD 9 with compression. Bethesda would have spent another 2 or 3 years to make all (or even most) of the cities, caves, and trees look entirely unique. I'm not advocating DVD 9 but I don't believe it is going to cause any major problems for the 360. They (the 360 owners) will just have to be willing to swap discs for RPGs and a few other particulary long games. Having owned a Gamecube I find discs swapping to be a non-issue in most games (Resident Evil 4, Twin Snakes, Medal of Honor: Rising Sun) and in some aspects it's even deja vu (RPGs = FF7), although I certainly appreciate the Blu-ray drive on the PS3.
the thing is why have multi disks when you don't need them and what will happen in a year or so when a game gets larger ect. just keep compressing more and more there will be a limit there so if it don't fit they will scap it like the did with just cause on the 360. compressing take time it not a push a button and then done no they have to keep coding it and coding it what gows here or there on the disk ect. would you rather have them spent more time adding to the game making it better rather than trying to figure out how to compress data ect. also audio is last in compression it does not sound that good ect.I'm not saying that DVD 9 is without problems; I'm just saying that it isn't going to force the 360 to have bad, ugly, or short games. In fact I would say the biggest problem with DVD 9 is how MS tries to keep the average publisher from being able to release on more that one disc, if it hadn't been for that maybe we would have had a two disc Halo 3 release with a better, longer campaign on one disc and the multplayer on another. We put up with multiple disc for the Playstation and had some fantastic non-rpg games on multiple discs, but of course Sony was allowing publishers more freedom in their releases on multiple discs, unlike MS.
As you said though, the cost of having to work around the size limitations is there also, like working around the limitations of the Cell, except in the 360's case their isn't any advantage to DVD 9 aside from cost and a minute advantage in read speed. It can be done, but for another hundred or so dollars and an HD-DVD drive it would not be an issue.
