I was wondering what you all think on EA's forray into the skateboarding Genre, will it compete well with Tony hawk's games or crash and burn?

Im hoping it competes well, I think it will make the Tony Hawk games better too, now that theyll have competion, maybe they will actually get new gameplay elements!!!

From what i've read and seen I think Tony Hawk will be better. Guess i'll have to give Skate a rent or something to see how it does.

It all comes down to gameplay.  The Tony Hawk series is known for being very smooth and easy to just pick up and go.

I guess we'll see how Skate does comparitively.

I've read and heard that Skate is gonna be very good and a more "True Skaters" game rather then the arcade Tony Hawk. I have Tony Hawk for PS3 and it's not much better then any of the others besides obviously the PS3 graphics. I've seen videos of people playing skate (from a couple of the skaters in the game) and it's looks wicked and by the way they play it and talk about it even though unfinished, it will be better then Tony Hawk and I have no doubt it will be as that shouldn't be too hard to do. the only hurdle in it's way is the name of Tony Hawk. Serious skate-boarding gamers will like Skate better but is that enough to take over. Only time will tell. I hope so.

yeah, reading all the stuff about it makes it seem almost like fight night, where you mainly use the analog to do stuff.

Main, thing I saw was that an Ollie wasnt just pressing the X button, you actully have to flip one analog up, and then the oter down.

I hope it does well, as I always find in TH games it's far to easy to become a "noob" skater to pro, skating for tony hawk's team:P

It looks interesting - I'll rent it at least. If this had come out alongside American Wasteland, I definitely would've gotten Skate. However, I really liked THP8, so it should be interesting to see how the career mode and such works for Skate.

Better?  I don't know.  I don't really like to think in those blanket, black and white terms.

I personally feel that, as far as Skate sounds so far, it sounds more like a skateboarding version of, say, a game like Gran Turismo, whereas Tony Hawk falls more into a game more akin to San Fransisco Rush.  Both certainly have their selling points and levels of quality, and each will appeal to differing or similar crowds, depending on the type of gamer.

I've been a longstanding fan of the Tony Hawk franchise - although I have fallen a bit out of touch with it - and I'm keenly interested in trying a new approach to the way the genre can be done.  I'll certainly at least be renting the title, although depending on reviews, I'll probably just end up buying it.

I really like the Tony Hawk series, I have Project 8 for PS3 and I think it's great that they stripped the series of a lot of the extra features that had piled up over the years, and kind of started over from scratch. I'm confident that Proving Ground is going to give us a ton of great new features, like online play and a really great character editor, and the new video editor, on top of the gameplay elements implemented in Project 8, and make it the best Tony Hawk Game yet. I'm skeptical about Skate, I'm not much of a sports fan, and I really only enjoy sports games that are willing to overlook really really realism and focus on fun gameplay, I'm interested to see how it turns out though--and it's cool that Rob and Big are gonna be in it. Also, I really don't get why I keep reading people comment that the Tony Hawk games never add any new gameplay elements--these comments really baffle me because every single Tony Hawk title that has been released on a console has added at least one new feature to the series, that's a fact. Sometimes I feel like people just read one comment and repeat it on every message board possible. It's just not true, if you've played all of the Tony Hawk games you would know that. That's like all of the comments I keep hearing about how crappy F.E.A.R. is on PS3-- I just beat F.E.A.R. and it was great. I have a really strong feeling that a lot of the people posting these negative comments about how they "hate Ubisoft" and "F.E.A.R. is a horrible port" haven't even played F.E.A.R. on PS3, they've just read the reviews and other people's comments. i'm really sick of comments like that and I know there's no way of making them stop but I'm just asking, please do not post a comment about your "opinion" on a game if you haven't personally experienced what you're talking about and formed that opinion yourself. Ya'know what I'm sayin??
