Skyrim thane of riften

ok so i just finished the skooma quest and i bought the house in riften. i checked it out then went back to the Jarl. but she doesnt have the option for me to become thane. so am i screwed out of becoming thane of riften? i turned off all autosaves to help my game run smoother so i cant go back. i heard that if you go check out the house before you talk to the Jarl again you're pretty much screwed. is there anything i can do about this or no? man thats the second city i got screwed out of thanehood. i can't buy the house in markarth either.

i want to buy a house in markath too but i don't remember how i can be a thane of markath...

you have to talk to the guy who is the servant to the jarl and he will give you the option to buy the house. your better off getting the house in whiterun its the cheapest at 5000 gold

You have to be willing to do some quest for the jarl. Talk to his servant and he will give you quest. Then you must help 5 people in town in order to get the towns peoples approval and stuff.
