Not sure what problems you've been reading about. If it's the stuck/dead pixel problem, the fat PSP has that too. I'd go for the slim unless you want to save some cash. The slim has more internal memory and a tv video out. I don't think the fat version will go "obsolete" although I'm sure new games will make use of the extra memory. The extra memory should also help web browsing (i hope).
I'm waiting for either the slim "core" release or the star wars version. It depends on the review of that game.

fynne
i saw the black slim core at target today
alrite thanks alot! ill definitely go for the slim now. o and...does anybody know if the slims have a factory warranty?NintendoRulz
I would say buy the older version.wingzero12
Well the slim is way lighter, comes in more colors, and load times are faster when processing games, but the downside is that... well, well it feels cheaply made, unlike the phat... when you hold the phat in your palms, it just feels.. well-made and awesome..

yeah but thats not a reason to play the phat instead of the slim, right?
why even consider the fat psp. The only reason i can think of why anyone would ever buy a fat psp now, would be money issues. if you have no problem with money get the new psp. it doesn't have any problems. its thinner, lighter, faster, brighter, and also can be modded if you seek that.
It just depends on how much you want to spend.
The differences between the 2 are so minor that most of what you hear from other people are just opinions anyway.
I'd check out the specs and prices on both. Other than that though, I wouldn't trust much of what you hear. People can be pretty biased when it comes to which psp..
All the people "answering" your question are leaving out the real reason for having the old psp. The fat psp's firmware can be downgraded to v1.50 the slim can'tGrowBot
Except that a lot of people want to keep things legal. Hacking is forbidden here.

is hacking forbidden to talk about here? it is legal to downgrade your psp, but it is illegal to download games that you did not buy.

Hacking is a forbidden topic here, read the stickies. That's what I meant be keeping things legal.
I'm sort of having the same problem not being able to decide which psp to get. Im in Australia and the old phat psp's usually sell second-hand for about $150. The 2000's cost $219 second-hand and the SH 3000's cost like $250.
The big price jump from the phat to the 2000 is making think I should just go for the phat. Yes its old and yes its heavier and with less internal memory, but for the price (good enough for me to trade in my DS and a few games and nothave to pay a cent) it seems the best deal. I don't intend to play with it outside so I don't think that the brighter screens or the less-reflective qualities of the newer versions will benefit me much.
For me, it also depends on what transpires at E3 2009. If a PsP2 is coming late this year, then a phat would surely be the way to go. However, if it is not announced, or is scheduled for 2010-11, then the better, more contemporary form may serve mewell in the long run.
Btw, if I wanted to I could more than easily buy a new PsP 3000 tomorrow, however, I feel there is a risk that I might not like/enjoy playing a PsP so the less I pay, the less money I risk.
Sorry about such a long post. If anyone with any ideas for me please let me know. Cheers :D
The PSP 3000 has some scan lines that you can see if you look carefully enough, other than that there's no problem at all, it even has an 'enhanced screen and built-in mic'.
The Fat one doesnt look as well, and the material feels cheaper, not glossy like the new Slims.
