I don't have problem dling.
my PS3 dls faster than my PC.
hour to dl your system update? ridiculous, it takes me 15-20 min max.
It could be that your computer is running applications that use resources (ie, AIM, MSN, Downloading something, etc).jechtshot78Good thought, but no. In fact, the download speeds sucked at my parents house just as much as they do at mine. Are there settings that can change the way your online is set up on the PS3?

Well if you are running off a router it could have a firewall. Try plugging your modem directly into your PS3, and see if it is still downloading slowly.
Then either your connection sucks or you're trying to download content from other continents, or both.romainsimoniTrying to download from another continent? Is that even an option on the PS3? And no, my connection is good. Remember how I said on my Xbox everything goes fast?

So you got your PS3 back in November and you still don't know about any PS3 settings and how the PSN works?
Damn...
I have problems with my download speed as well, so much so that I usually download onto an external hard-drive then load it up into the Playstation 3. My computer is many, many times faster than the Playstation 3, even though the latter is wired and the former is wireless.
They really need to fix this in a future update.
Has anyone noticed ridiculously slow download speeds? Doing a simple system update can take over an hour! Is this problem exclusive to me? On my Xbox 360, the downloads are probably 5 times faster. I mean, a system update takes maybe 60 seconds. I don't get why on PlayStation it's so slow, but on Xbox the speeds are reasonable.casale
There was this one guy who tested it and found the PS3 was the fastest console. When I saw that I immediately thought WTF!? The Skate demo took 3 hours on my PS3 and 1 on my 360. Then I realized the 360 was wired. Yeah that probably helps.
Yeah my network updates are quick i can just switch to my cable box and watch tv for a few mins then its done everything else i perform in the backgroundtakiobadtz
yeah thats what i do, but keep in mind the ps3 does try and get most installing out of the way prior to gameplay, cuts loading times a lot as what is being said on reviews comparing it to xbox versions (example: oblivion). so comparing it to your xbox, it would be slower. but it shouldnt be that slow.
There are so many factors involved here it's not something you can blame Sony for IMO. Going wireless is slower than wired. I have tested this myself and my speeds are alot faster when my PS3 is wired (going through a router).
First you need to check your NAT type listed on your PS3 under network status (don't really remember exactly what it's labled). Google PS3 NAT type if you want more info.
Second, you need to see how old is your modem, router. This is alot more important than you may realize. Example, Upgraded my Internet service to a 10MB downstream and when I ran a speed test it was registering 5MB due to the fact the modem had a limit of 5MB and no one from my ISP was going to tell me this right off until I called to find out why I wasn't getting 10MB.
Third, buy your own modem don't rent one from your ISP.
Now, I worked for a cable internet provider for some time and will tell you straight up they will overload nodes. Think of it as 1 line (going to use simple numbers to make a point) with a 100MB limit going into a box which seperates the feed to different houses on that node. So, you can have 10 homes feed off that node right? Well lets say there are 1 or 2 more homes wanting internet they are not going to come out and put in a new node, instead they will overload the original node with the reasoning no one will notice because the odds of everyone maxing out their bandwidth at the same time choking the 2 extra homes is unlikely. However you will notice a fluctuation in speeds during different times of the day.
Also download spybot search and destroy for your PC, make sure you check your windows update settings and make sure its set to just notify you of updates and not automatically download updates.
