It's becoming increasingly clear to me that just with books and movies, there are classic games that should simply not die out. As copies are running fewer and fewer, some o f these games are becoming very rare and VERY expensive. Xenogears alone is now $170.00+ on ebay. And to be honest, Xenogears is a classic I'd like to pay $170.00 ... if I could afford it. Other well liked games such as Suikoden 2 (which I have not played) is also very expensive. The playstation classics are becoming very expensive. Which is where the PSP comes in. I'm going to make 2 points - Which make up 1 point - Bring them to PSP.

1. Release them overseas. Xenogears is now available on the PSN for download, as well as Resident Evil 1 and 2 - but only in Japan. A suikoden I & II PSP game was released in Japan as well, and with the clearly high demand for 2 in America, WHY not release it here? Why not release the classic games that people are going back to, want to play again, or want to preserve as they become increasingly more rare and expensive? There is a reason why many people use the PSP in the way they do (not going to get moderated). It's because a portable playstation is a great idea, yet ... still.

2. Make them smart ports. Case and Point: Final Fantasy Tactics for PSP and Valkyrie Profile Lenneth. Square, while not being in my favor as of late, has done a great job of rejuvinating these titles for the PSP. Many PSP games suffered awful translations, such as FFVII. Why not rerelease them for the PSP? Not just a quick simple port with an extra dungeon, make it special. Make the PSP the way to play the PS1 classics in a new and updated way that utilizes resources better than when they were originally released. Many people love the Persona games on the Playstaiton 2. Why not release Persona 1 & 2 with a better translation for the PSP? The fanbase is there. Update the graphics in the Persona 1's city walking portions. Add fmv cinematics to a game that desperately needs them or update the ones from a previous game. Essentially, make the new PSP version of the game superior to the original playstation version.

Many of these games are highly acclaimed and or reccomended in forums such as these. The small number of titles on the PSN avalaible for download is a step forward, but there are so many more classics unearthed or only in Japan. What do you think are games that shouldn't die out? Any games that you think are a smart port to the PSP?Note that I'm focusing on PS1 games, although some saturn games have been ported to PSP (in Japan - Princess Crown prequel to Odin Sphere), and snes games could certainly be ported but I doubt nintendo games after snes would or could be.

P.S. I think Final Fantasy VI would be perfect 3D remake candidate for ... PSP!

As much as the fanbase is there for many games, it may not be cost effective for Sony et. al. to recreate games for newer systems. If it were easy and cheap, we'd have every game ever made available (which I would love). I don't know what's involved in preparing a game like Suikoden for PSN download, but it must take time and money, and it seems that what little time and money Sony is spending on the PSP is for new and current IPs.

I'd love to see all the not updated FF games rereleased, Klonoa, the remaining Spyro games, and so many more. I'm not holding out hope.

But games like Xenogears and Resident Evil 2 (Biohazard 2) are already on the Japanese PSN so why can't they make it to the American PSN? Of course thats not a smart port, but its a good way to kep the games alive.

Well, what FF games do you have in mind? I, II, III, and IV have all recieved graphical updates. V and VI received new translations.

I was thinking more of FF VIII and IX. I started out with those, and thus are my favorites. I played FFIII on DS and enjoyed it too. I'm thinking of getting FFI and II for PSP just to play them. I've heard a lot of great things about VI. Wasn't it released with ChronoTrigger/Cross as a compilation?

I suppose it's much more difficult to emulate multidisk games.

I would not buy Chrono Trigger that is packaged together with FF IV. It's called FF Chronicles. The gameplay is slow compared to the SNES and DS version. FF Anthologies is the same way. Unless you are a collector, do not bother getting these ports. I agree on FF VII to IX port to psp. All those RPG's are welcome to the psp, Xeno, Vagrant, Lunar I and II, etc...

The file size for VII was around 400 mb so I'm sure VIII and IX are even bigger. Thats the real problem. I don't think its too hard. They have to rewrite the way that works, but it shouldn't be difficult because all you're doing is getting rid of the part that applies to multiple discs and make it work with the new hardware (as you have to do with any port). I & II are beautiful on the PSP but II is unpopular because of it's gameplay (the leveling up is a good idea its just implemented poorly). IV was released with Chrono Trigger in Chronicles. VI was released with V in Anthology, which I'm looking to rebuy on ebay to have a disc copy.

P.S. I love VIII but I dont think there's much that can be done to update it.

I'd be happy with a straight port of FFVIII. I loved it. First full fledged RPG I got through. (I know how lame that sounds)

VII was my first RPG followed by VIII both on the PC until I got a PS2. I love my PS1copy of VIII.
