Don't be tricked into buying an expensive HDMI cable, it's been proven that you'll get the same quality from a cheap £5 cable as you get wit a £50 cable.

Cheap generics are fine. But whatever brand keep the length to a minimum.

Say the space from your ps3 to the tv is 5ft, use a 6ft cable not a 20ft. Even though the signal is digital it still suffers from signal loss.

Although you won't need to buy an expensive cable if it's under 15 feet, not all cables are the same. If you're going to buy an HDMI cable, get one that's version 1.3 or 1.4. I got this one and it works perfectly fine.

Can't remember which tech website it was but they used a coat hanger to transmit an HD signal (basically put HDMI plugs on the ends of the hanger) and it worked perfectly fine at shorter lengths. With digital the signal either makes it there or it doesn't, so as long as the picture on the screen doesn't have any holes in the picture you're cable is high enough quality.

HDMI is a digital signal so you either get it or you don't. If your HDMI cable delivers a picture then that is the best that picture will look on any HDMI cable.

This is a quite a bit different from analog connection (like component) where cable quality could have an effect on picture quality.

So go to newegg.com or something and buy a 5 dollar HDMIcable and it will deliver picture quality just as good as the $100 cable from Best Buy.

EDIT: Oops didn't notice shadow typed the same thing lol :P

Dont you hate when that happens. Last yr I thought my DS3 was damaged, went out and bought another using some of the gamestop credits i had. anyway, Now that i have tried the Microsoft cable im not that impress with the games i tried. Right of the bat with HDMI enabled the XMB does look diffrent and seems more text fits on the screen.(Network settings i had to scroll down) Also the audio is noticably better. Anyway. MGS4- looks like the color is being washed away. I thought my camo suit was black but in HD its looks grey? Lost Planet 2 demo- Not that big of a diffrence Killzone 2 demo- Not that big of a diffrence Ninja Gaiden 2 demo- Not that big of a diffence Infamous- Very good Uncharted Drake Fortune- Oh my god, i thought it look good on my 10 yr old SD and even better when played it on my LCD, but damn its looks better in HD mode.

Cheap generics are fine. But whatever brand keep the length to a minimum.

dbaron26

what you mean length to a minimum?

Just get a pre paid credit card, problem solved. Or you could spend 3 times the amount and buy from Walmart.

Don't follow the peanut gallery. You don't need an $85 monster cable, but you don't want a "dollar store" cable either. There is a difference between cheap, and inexpensive. Cheap will cost you in the long run.
