So how are trophies compared to acheivements?

As you can see from my sig I really like the whole acheivement thing! But since my 360 broke, AGAIN!! I'm done with Microsoft and getting a PS3.I was no fanboy or nothing I just got the 360 cause I'm a graphics whore and it came out first:oops: And I really could't afford both.

Now, I sold all my 360 stuff and I can get a PS3. I just want to know if the Trophies are as fun to get as the Acheivements? Or do they feel like something added on at the last minute kind of thing?

They're pretty similar, like achievements you unlock them the same way.

If you're into such sort of appeal, they're as addictive.

Cool, that's what I was hoping for! Believe it or not I've never played a PS3 yet (None of my friends are really gamers). And with the 360 I would really get more out of the game trying to get the achevements.

Weirdly after having had a 360 first then being the owner of a PS3, achievements for me were 2x as addictive. I like didn't even bother with trophies.

Actually, the trophy system is nowhere near as addictive as Gamerpoints. On the 360, I find a desire to get achievements, and I enjoy browsing my friends lists and compare what games we've played, what achievements they have done, etc. This entire experience of competitiveness is nonexistent on the trophy system. Since going PS3 gaming only, (360 broke) I have lost any desire to get any trophies unless I really love the game.

As you can see from my sig, I was addicted to Gamerscore and got 97,000.

Trophies came up, and now I'm even more addicted, I already got 20 Platinums.

They are essentially the same thing, but the whole Platinum thing is awesome, because at a glance your friends can see how many Platinums you got. On 360, they just see a score. They can't tell how many 1000's you got at a glance, but they can look it up and manually count them. For someone ith a Large score, it's going to take awhile. On the pS3, they can see it at a glance.

I enjoy browing on my friends list to see what trophies they got, and my friends are always commenting on my new user level, or latest platinum. It's very competitive! I have the same kinds of friends on 360, and some of them are like me, PS360 guys.

They gave up trying to compete with my GAMERSCORE, since I destroyed them. Now they are trying even harder with Trophies!

The way trophies work is there are BRONZE, SILVER, GOLD, and rare PLATINUMS (you only get these at 100% of a retail game).

You also have a manual count of your trophies, like right now I have 1400+ trophies. And finally, your trophies add to your PSN LEVEL.

I'm a LEVEL 14 right now. It's like an RPG, if you ever played one of those.

I find the Trophies are very addicting, just as Gamerscore is. Check out my sig, I'm not just some random poster, I know this stuff inside and out!

So, Trophies are more well thought out than Gamerscore BUT, Trophies are NOT in every PS3 game, that's the bad thing. Old games don't have trophies, only all new games (2009), and quite a few from 2008. So, that's the thing that hurts vs. Gamerscore.

So, it's a plus and a minus, in the end, it's all the same thing. :)

On paper Torphies are a superior system (see good ol' SolidTy's explanation) but they aren't implemented in every single game. Every game from Jan 2009 onwards has trophies but the majority of games before then won't have them.

Trophies and Achievements are mostly the same but compared to web features - Achievements has Trophies OUTCLASSED. If we look at any profile on mygamercard.net...Sony's Trophies have nothing like that yet. There is yet, no official trophies leaderboards. The trophies profile on Playstation.com ignores the trophies you've earned for games not officially released in USA (and that's why my Ashes 09 trophies don't show up there). And you always have to sync your profile from the PS3 to have it updated there so no such thing as auto updates. You also can't view anyones live status like you can on mygamercard.net. Playstation.com also does not provide on web friends list access where you can add/delete friends and message them like you can do on mygamercard.net/xbox.com. There is also no rewards program for trophies yet. But hopefully, with time, Sony will improve upon all these, they've come so far and its only a matter of time before they match up.

Recently, I have become addicted to getting trophies.. I don't know why since it will never amount to anything and one day it will be all gone. Here is what I was thinking... When you get a platinum, Sony should send you something... an actual trophy, plastic or metal seems a bit much cause so many people out there eventually get platinums.. but how about taking your home address from your playstation network account, if you have one listed, and them sending you a certificate with a platinum logo on it, and what game and date you achieved it... THEN, how addicting would it be!?

I like your idea!!!

I know what you mean about them one day being gone, like my gamerescore. It's not really gone but I'm not gonna be playing xbox 360 for a very long time if ever agiain so it might as well be gone.

the thing with acheivements is that your number gets inflated with each acheivement having a diff value, whereas a trophy is a trophy and nobody really looks at trophy levels. so having 20,000 xp seems cooler then 800 trophys

This is absolute nonsense. The two are EXACTLY the same thing. In addition, the 360 Gamescore doesn't give you extra credit for getting all of the achievements/trophies in a game. Getting a Platinum trophy is a very rewarding feeling.

I fail to see your logic. The trophy system is far superior because it divides the challenges into levels of difficulty, as follows:

Bronze - Easiest

Silver - Moderate

Gold - Hard

Platinum - Hardest

In comparison to the gamerscore which is just simply a tally of all of your achievements that is essentially useless.

Seeing 800 bronze trophies, and 200 silver trophies, and 100 gold trophies, and 5 platinums is far better than 20,000 gamer points.

I couldnt have said it better myself. Only older PS3 games do not have trophies, but since the start of this year all PS3 have had them.

5,000 gamerscore is not as impressive as5 Platinums trophies since to get 5000 scores we dont needskill, we may play a tonof games, geteasy achievementsto accumulate the score but when we see a guy that has 5 Platinums we know that it's no walk in the park.

The trophy system is much better, imo. Mostly because of the Platinum. Having 1000/1000 just isn't that rewarding.

The only difference is the sound they make, and instead of point values they are labeled bronze, silver, and gold. Purely superficial crap, they're very much the same.

That is exactly what I wanted, because without that trophies would almost be pointless. I know in reality they are but still it's kinda cool to have a record of what you did, and proof if someone don't beleive you

I prefer trophies better because they give you the motive to earn that one last hard trophy, whereas on a 360 game it's just don't try to get that one really hard achievement as there is no incentive. Also I like the division of trophies into bronze, silver, gold, and platinum on the player profile it makes it easier to see if they try to go for the hard trophies or just play a bunch of games for the easy trophies. The downside is that most old games don't have trophies. Hope that helped.
