and im trying my best to not smash my PS3 to pieces , is there any fix for it? it's a rare 60gig model i can't freaking have it die NOW! jesus christ , thank god that i still haven't sold my 40 gig gunmetal PS3 otherwise i wouldn't be able to play KZ2.ThWorldGreatestDon't send it back. Find a local repair shop, or fix it yourself.
Take your 40 GB hard drive out of your gunmetal PS3 and put it in the 60 GB system and see if it was just a hard drive error.
Its very simple to do. Can find the instructions by googling, but it really dont require them, its very easy.

Back up the 40 gig first.
When you put the drive in a different PS3 it will format the drive.

lol glad you caught that, I forgot completely
the only thing you can do is call sony and have them send you a coffin. 1-800-345-sonySk8ter_213Local Shops can fix them. High chance that the one he gets back from Sony will be a non 60gb model.

Um, no. You're completely wrong and full of crap. There are no "local shops" that can fix PS3s. This isn't the 90's and this isn't Sega Genesis or SNES where you could take it anywhere to get fixed. You also, don't even know what you're talking about. How do you even know what model they send back?
TC, my PS3 died on me aswell before Christmas. It was a 60 gig model, a 60 gig model was returned and it only took a week. You don't actually send to Sony Corp, as it goes to a repair shop certified by Sony in your general area. If you happen to live close to one you can drop it off yourself, but chances are you have to send it out. But you cannot go to any shop to get it fixed.
I've seen a couple of these posts for a while....and have a question.
Does this only happen for the 60GB model? All the previous reports of PS3 failure seems to be 60GB.
Gxgear
From all that I've been seeing, I would say so. But it's only an assumption as it's not actually confirmed by Sony.
But I'm included as I've had the same happen to me and I have the 60 gig model.

If that's the case, wouldn't it be a HDD specific issue?

Dude they can. They got guys that can fix 360 RROD and PS3 in my Dorm. It isn't rocket science all you need is to be knowledgeable about Electronics, and have the right tools.Dude they can. I don't think there are many shops like that, at least not where I live
I would call Sony and see what they suggest
well mine just got it last night. sux, but I saw it coming... Had to borrow my brothers 60GB Sony said to fill out some info online then they'll send me a box to ship it. $150!!! WHACK
My only problem is the fact I have a PS3 game in it which wont come out. I doubt it'll still be in there when/if it gets returned (original 60GB model).
I got the yellow light of death last week and was awaiting a refurbished 60gig today ... didnt arrive so i rang sony they told me that they've run out of the 60gig model and was awaiting more to arrive hopefully i'll get one next week. but these last couple of weeks all i've been seeing is post after post " got yellow light of death " this is really getting out of control. It seems that if you have a 60gig launch model or close to that date that the future dont look good .. BACK UP your save files if you can and any other data ( i wish i had ) cause it looks like the dreaded YLOD is gonna happen wether you like it or not.
yea thats a sad tale lol. problem was you were a new poster and that sends up flare's in peoples mind that u just made a secound account to troll with. i have found on forums with so many children and adults with child like minds you have to be super polite and stroke there fanboy ego's to get treated right when you have a problem. you know like this. " Guys i realy love my ps3, its just the most uber system in the world, but last night it got the ylod while i was playing MGS4 for the 20th time on big boss hard. please help. i realy want to get this great and mighty system working again" then go on in great long detail as to how well you take care of the system, your blood type, mothers madian name, promis to name your first born son Snake. Then maby if the moon is at its fullest and the stars are aligned you may keep from getting flamed ;)wow, things have changed on these forums..or perhaps some people developed a brain. Here's the grief i received last year dealing with this...

Lol ... great
why did you buy a 60 gig in the first place, if it was coz of the bigger hard drive then just upgrade the 40 gigB-L-I-N-G-A-H
because it was the only model that was available aside from the crappy 20 gig , both models are doomed to fail, and i doubt sony would fix it cause i imported it from japan , im going to try and contact them , crossing my fingers here :(.

I actually remember seeing your post, and I think it was about at that time that I decided to quit posting on these forums unless I needed help because most of the people doing the posting were extremely childish.

yeah....I got stuck with pretty much the most pathetic group of internet-tough guys trying to make a point ....people telling me to post my PSN id or whatever. I didn't bother posting on these forums after that, considering the lack of moderation on top of all the BS comments. I still read the reviews on here though, at least those were pretty good.As for the yellow light issue, Sony took care of the problem and it was replaced under warranty with what looked like a brand new 60g system, even though it showed as refurbished. I've been using this one all the time and it works great (albeit the fan is louder than the old ps3) I'm thinking of selling this on ebay since I never use the BC feature and i dont want to get stuck with the yellow light issue again since its still happening.
