i will be getting this game tomorrow or by friday for sure. thing is i am sad as well getting it cuz i know once i get the game, enjoy playing it and have fun with it and finish it... i won't have anything else to look forward to for a while for the psp. back to hunting for old games. have you guys checked out gamespot psp page? click on new releases and then skip week by week forward and you will see its worse than a drought. i have been waiting for this game for so long, and i know the joy won't even last a month. after i am done playing it back to waiting for another good release for the psp. sadly.
Resistance Retribution has a very deep multiplayer that's just as good as its console versions, so that'll give you a much longer replay value for awhile.i will be getting this game tomorrow or by friday for sure. thing is i am sad as well getting it cuz i know once i get the game, enjoy playing it and have fun with it and finish it... i won't have anything else to look forward to for a while for the psp. back to hunting for old games. have you guys checked out gamespot psp page? click on new releases and then skip week by week forward and you will see its worse than a drought. i have been waiting for this game for so long, and i know the joy won't even last a month. after i am done playing it back to waiting for another good release for the psp. sadly.

How is the online? If it's top-notch then I'll be getting it for surebball_freak_2IGN and Gametrailers claim it's the best handheld multiplayer experience that's just as good as the console versions. I'm playing it now (not the online) but seeing how well the game controls and plays, I have no doubt it'll be a blast online.
I bought the game yesterday, never played it yet. I still have to beat Syphon Filter Dark Mirror
i have it! just bought it today in the morning and started playing it. we don't get all the weapons at the beginning like in the demo :( but oh well enemies are pretty easy at the beginning anyway so i won't be needing anything big. the cinematics is just top notch and its like god of war if not better. i am playing easy difficulty, since i am a wuss. :)
I wish gamespot would hurry up with their review. How come they made a launch center but it takes more than 24 hours after the retail release for a review. there is one user review but its not very helpful and the rest of the internet cant make up its mind ive seen from 6/10 to 9.5/10
The game looks great, and animates well with a steady framerate from what I can see, I just hate the auto-targeting and it's sort of a one-trick pony in terms of enemy AI. The locations and triggers for enemies are predictable to a fault, and the boss battles are giant, well animated dulldrums. Check out the demo before you pay for it, it wasn't my flavor at all. Impressive on a lot of levels, but not earth-shattering gotta-own.
And multiplayer? On the PSP? Unless you're talking about Ad-Hoc with people you know (and can reach out to strangle), the cheating is already epidemic in scale without a doubt.
This game amazed me with its visuals... My psp screen is broken so I play on my 37" hdtv and it still looked amazing even after being stretched out and extremely pixelated. I can only imagine how much better it would look on a psp screen. Also the gameplay is solid and it feels exactly like your playing Resistance and not some weird other game. Definitely a 9 or a 9.5 for the psp.
Can someone explain how the controls work? How do you look around, move, shoot, change weapons, etc?

Think "Syphon Filter". That's pretty much it. (In 'Alternate' setting) Buttons to move, stick to aim, D-pad for weapons and cover. Auto-targeting because the controls are imprecise.

Try playing it without the auto-aim. Guarantee you'll throw your PSP to the wall in frustration. I don't know what part is in the demo but there are parts in the game where you won't be able to aim manually against swarming smaller enemies that are too fast. Also, there is an option where you can switch to manual aiming by pressing up on the D-pad. It zooms into your character like Gears of War or Dead Space and you can aim manually from that view letting you do headhsots, blow up barrels, and stuff like that.
It's not the game's fault for having auto-aim. It's the PSP's fault. So I think the developers did a very admirable job in working around the system's limitations.

You move with the analog, you aim with your face-pads. You shoot with the trigger buttons, the right for shooting and the left for alternative fire like grenade launchers, etc. But the controls are less frustrating than Syphon Filter because of the auto-aim, which helps a lot. But it doesn't feel tacked on. It helps make the game more fun to play.
The D-pad is for a few things. Up is to get into manual aiming or sniper. Right is to manage your weapons. You can hold on to it to get into a menu where it's very simple to switch weapons or you can do a quick switch by pressing the right button quickly. Down is to climb up things or as an action button like opening doors, planting grenades, etc. Left is to reload.
It sounds complicated on paper, but it's not when you play it. It's very easy to get into. I never was once frustrated or anything. I think that's why this is the best shooter on the PSP because the controls are so good. I got into the game without any tutorial or anything right away (even though there is a in-game tutorial during the first mission.)
The controls are like Syphon Filter. You look around using ^, [], X, O. You shoot with R trigger, change weapons using right control pad. Anyways, I finally played the game and boy is it AWESOME!! :DCan someone explain how the controls work? How do you look around, move, shoot, change weapons, etc?

I'm not really pointing fingers, I'm just saying I don't like the fact (as you say yourself) that auto-aim is pretty much required to get through the game. Who cares who's fault it is? And if you read what I wrote, I don't know how much more complementary I could have been to the game over-all. It looks like a cool title... it's just not the instant sale hype makes it out to be. I thought so, so I posted such.
