So is it lag or fps problems?

I heard that Black Ops is having horrible FPS drops. I'm almost certain that is the case because i'm seeing massive slow downs witht he picture/ game while my connection is 3 green bars. Better be patched... Anyone else having similar problems? I just keep blaming the host

Yes! The framerate is horrible. Like you, I'm hoping for a patch... but is it even possible to patch framerate issues? I'm really not sure... does anyone know?

It's possible, but since replacing resources and models at this point is impractical with patches, programmers will have to work extra-hard on developing new algorithms and code for better resource management/limiting within the preset boundaries of the PS3 hardware and polygon budgets set for their engine. So yeah, it's possible, but don't count on it.

The games alright i just want better spawning system and better maps. I can deal with slow downs on jungle and snow map. Also want something done with the RC-XD. Couple reasons i dont even play online much. Game just feels like more random and need to keep looking everywhere cause you know they will spawn behind you. For now i just trying to get to level 50 on combat training then will just play zombie .

I find this too :( I find a lot of lag in Black Ops where I see a guy before he sees me and I start shooting and I don't evenget a hit marker! And I watch the killcam it shows me not even shooting... Oh well, I can only hope for a patch

For me, it was terrible for two days at launch. Now it seems to get better. At times it still drops, and when using napalm it drops really rapidly for a while. But for me, its just about previous CoD games, maybe a little bit worse. Nothing horrible though. If they patch it to make it better, I would be really glad for that.

i didnt play much waw online, but i dont remember it having any framerate issues. i know cod4 and mw2 didnt have any framerate issues. in fact, black ops is the first online shooter ive played that had framerate problems.

I noticed it has these issues even when you play against bots or solo in Der riese map... how can they release something like that? Because they can i guess.

simply put, i'v stoped playing this game. thinking of exchanging it already. i have absolutely no problems with CoD4, but Black Ops it's just rediculously laggy. i see an enemy and i fire, i get a good 4/5 shots off and then i die. when i look at the replay i never fired a single shot.....REDICULOUS. on top of that the graphics are sub par and the hit boxes are just not right. still kicking myself for buying into the hype instead of waiting for the reviews.

Yup, the frames drop usually when i run into 2 or more players, it'll get patched eventually. For now just play more careful, don't sprint too much and keep your eye on the radar.

I think most of you are mistaking frame-rates for lag. Black Ops doesn't have any frame-rate trouble. Quite easy to come to this conclusion--simply play a single-player mission (campaign). For me, it runs smoothly, without any slow-downs. And since the game looks exactly the same and has just as much interactivity on multilayer, it's not a software/hardware problem, but, rather, internet-related. This is what happens when a game doesn't have dedicated servers: mayhem.

I agree, the single player has no frame rate issues.

no, I, along with many other people know the difference between lag and framerate issues, and what I'm seeing in multiplayer is a drop in framerate, not lag. Although there certainly is lag as well. You can play combat training where there is no lag and there are still framerate drops. Some maps are worse than others, but the drop in fps shouldn't be there at all.

Have you played the campaign? My crappy PS3 has frame-rate problems with pretty much every game I own--except for Black Ops. It's lag. If the game runs smoothly when you blow up a dozen trucks while five dozen more soldiers are shooting at you, multiplayer has no right to have any technical issues when up against two players.

It shouldn't be terribly difficult, I mean from what I hear it runs quite fine on the 360 so they shouldn't have to do too much to get it up to par. Although if this isn't fixed by the end of this week or next week, I'm done. No excuse for the developer not to have the game in proper working order.

i'm not a good fps player, K/D is always below 1.00 even in other games, though i can contribuite on other aspects... but the lag makes it even worse... especially during the past few days after launch. then, got a tip of changing the settings to "locale" and things got better... i'm in the Philippines, and when i play withasian neighbors, i get 3-4 bars... but when i get invited by a friend in the U.S., 1-2 bars max... i also wonder if the temporary fix of making a new account with minimal friends work? they say the constant update ofyour friends' activities isthe cause of the lag... but i don't wanna start over again...

It's already been announced that the Treyarch knows the lag is a problem, and is working on it. Not sure if anyone watches NextGenTactics but it's been stated that on the PS3 the more friends you have the more lag you will encounter. They say shaving down your list will help out to a degree.

Both it seems. At times its just lag. but also FPS. Generally, it appears to be FPS issues more often then lag, at least for me.

This is about multiplayer, play against bots and take a look. Those are framerate issues that shouldnt be there.

The single player is fine, but Multiplayer has lots of framerate issues. One instance you can guarantee framerate issues is when a Napalm strike comes in. Even during local, private matches with friends i encounter the same issues. Black Ops just doesnt run fluid like other games in the series.

My brother has it, and it seems fine what I've seen.

If any game needs a patch for framerate though its Fallout New Vegas.
