And/or a price drop? It's pretty pricey, and the 3DS is the only thing on the market, and with 3 different colors. I'm getting really curious as to wether or not it'll survive so late after Christmas.

It will.
And it's worth the price.
People are really hyped up about it, there's no region-locking, so yes, it will survive. Awesomely. And it'll most probably beat the 3DS as well.
if you think vita is expensive, then you shouldn't buy it....
I for one think vita is worth the price, otherwise
i wont be paying 100 more to import it

The average joe/mom doesn't know the qualties of the VIta. They would look to the DS/3DS instead because its cheaper.[QUOTE="McBoogerballz"]The average joe/mom doesn't know the qualties of the VIta. PSP107
then so be it
I don't want sony to lower the price to compromise the quality just to attract kids or kids' moms
The vita is everything I can ask for a current-gen handheld
Yes, but it won't be the massive hit that Sony wants. They're making a huge mistake giving Nintendo an entire year alone.
The PSP will make Christmas sales but Only in Japan and South Korea. Asian region get the PSP December 17th 2011. Rest of the world waits until March 31 2012. So the PSP will survive. The original PSP launched in March 2005. So a PSvita March 2012. So just over 7 years between Playstation portable and Playstation Vita.
The PSvita will do just fine. $249.99 or $299.99 for 3G model. Sony should have plenty of time to have the important North American launch games ready. So that Sony will not "pull a 3DS" and launch without important games. Uncharted Abyss, Street fighter x Tekken, Killzone, etc. Plus new IPs Sound shapes and Ruin.
PSvita will do just fine.

Sony would be making an even BIGGER mistake releasing it during the Holidays if there are no games out yet.

There's an easy way of fixing that: put out games.

Okay. So, Sony and every other third-party developer should release unfinished games? I'm sure consumers will love that.
If it really did just lose Monster Hunter as an exclusive, a title that skyrocketed the PSP's sales that now may be exclusive to the 3DS, its going to have a much tougher time. The Vita really needs a game that can match the phenomenon of Pokemon to balance the competition out.
That said, if they're releasing the system in February 2012, I hope they learned from the mistakes of the 3DS launch and are smart enough to not repeat it.

If Sony wanted to launch this holiday, they could've easily had at least a dozen games ready for launch.

I really wish it was making it stateside in December, but I understand that there is a large constraint on the production side; They simply cannot meet demand due to lack of current manufacturing capacities.
I actually think the global launch in febuary will lead to a world wide shortage of Vita units because production will still be ramping up.
I am not sure how soon they will be able to meet global demand (6 month? 24 month?), but they won't need this christmas because they will simply be sold out of their short supply anyway.
