So I currently have a 20GB launch PS3 model. I have recently opened it up, cleaned out all the dust, and replaced the thermal paste in hopes of making it last till the PS4 comes out.

Today is me and my girlfriends 3 year anniversay and she bought me a new PS3 slim with Uncharted 3. I was like hmmmm. It was good of her to remember that before I cleaned out my PS3 I was worrying if it would last me the rest of the current generation. Although, now that its been running almost as good as new since I cleaned it up I'm not sure if I should have her return it and get a vaporizer or is the slim really all that good?

I honestly believe that my Fatty PS3 will last me to the end of this generation but I wanted to hear what you guys would think. Should I keep the slim? Get something else of equal value? It might also be worth noting that I'm 95% sure I'm getting Uncharted 3 for Christmas.

What would the benefits of having the ps3 slim be?

Thanks for the help!

Why do you need other people to tell you what to do?

Dang dude haha take that stick out of your butt.

Your totally right though, me asking what the benefits of the PS3 slim compared to the older model is so out of place on a PS3 FORUM.

And me asking what people thought on the longeivity of the Fatty PS3 is again soooooo out of place. People like you make me laugh, makes me happy that I'm me and not you.

Well i have a slim, after my 60 died about a year ago. I have no issues about it other than aesthetic appeal, compared to the glossy finish of the 60 thats now sitting in my closet lol. I would honestly say hang on to the slim just in case or set it up in another room...

Clean your old PS3 all you want, its days are numbered, that's just the way modern electronics work.

Enjoy your present and be grateful you got such a great gift instead of something crappy like a Wii or a Kindle.

It come down whether you want to take basically a sure thing or a risk with your fatty, since there is a chance it could die anyday now.It ultimately up to you.

I wouldnt trust the fat PS3, especially launch model. Fat models seem to be hit or miss. Honestly I"d keep the slim as its much better in pretty much every way (apart from lacking some USB ports etc.). Its quiet and reliable. However if you decide to keep slim and get rid of fat model, make sure you deactivate your PSN account on fatty first. Account Management > System Activation > PS3 System > Game and deactivate it. From today, you can only use bought content on two systems so this makes it easier.

How do you manage with just 20GB? Reliability, quieter, wifi, bigger HDD, etc. No brainer, trade the launch fatso in towards something.

Every fat PS3 is going to die sometime. On another note....your girlfriend bought you a PS3. Keep the damn console, selfish. She oughta return you to the store.

I was wondering the same thing! I have an 80GB, and I'm almost out of space. Another benefit of the Slims is that they use much less energy than the Fats. To me that makes it worth dumping your old one for the new one.

Stop being ungreatful and accept her gift. She spent alot of money on you and went out of her way to fix something that was worrying you. So keep the damn gift and enjoy it... My question back is what did you get her?... if anything...

Well I've upgraded my HD twice now haha. When I first got it, I immediately put it to 80 GB and then a year or 2 ago I upgraded it to 320GB. Yeah the less engry thing was sorta keeping me with it.

I totally understand that it may seem like I came across as ungrateful by the way I described it but I did thank her a bunch. She's the one that offered to potentially get something else because she wasn't sure that if I had fully fixed it or not. And I got her this Tiffiny Sunglasses and took her to this steak house she loves lol. That'd be messed up to not do anything.

How is it selfish? If you got 2 of the same game would you keep both? Like it said early in this text, it was her to offer to get something else.

Otherwise, the first posts had me thinking I was probably going to keep it and try and sell my fatty to my dad. He just refuses to get a PS3 and it upsets me. I'll prob actually try to trade it to him for a TiVo.

Thanks for the responces guys

Keep the slim because it was a gift to you. What you can do now is give away your old PS3 to someone else. Its gonna be a while till the PS4 comes out and even longer till there aregood games for it. I seriously doubt PS4 will be backward compatible.

Stash the 20Gb fatty, you'll sell it for quite a bit of money in a couple of years if it still works. Use the slim. It's nicer looking. That way your gf won't be offended, you still get a working PS3 and you'll get some money back from the fat 20.

if it works fine i'd say trade it in for a 360 if u ain't got one already, if u do own a 360 trade it in for a bunch of games, i'd atleast wait a week or so to make sure the old one keeps working before ya decide tho.. ;)

I say keep it. She obviously loves you enough to not only let you enjoy your hobby but also supports it. Just trade in the game when you get it and have the other console for an entertainment purpose other then gaming. If your 20 does somehow die then you have that peace of mind and a back up.
