its very similar. outside of dark souls' interconnected environments (which actually come across as tighter in terms of difficulty), the numerous differences are largely a matter of tuning. health restoratives are more controlled so you cant get by with potion spamming, target locks have mild differences (largely for orientation, i assume), you cant spam magic, heavy armor is a bit more effective, and that sort of thing.
Very similar, they share the same hud, the combat system is largely the same (its obviously more fine tuned in this one) and both love to kick you when your down (and make you cry). But yeah, while you're not missing out much by skipping Demon's Souls, its still worth getting if you like Dark Souls.
