So my PS3 Died...

So has anyone elses PS3 just randomly stopped workin, as in it will no longer recognize any discs?.. Does anyone know why this would happen? I loved it, treated it like a collecter Ferrari.. I called sony tech, restored it, and reformatted the hard drive. All to no avail. :cry:  But i just dont understand how a brand new gently used 600 console can just crap out.. now i have to wait for Sony to mail me another console.. So i cant even enjoy the recent release of motorstorm, i was so psyched on this system and having it.. now i question quality of this product that i was convinced i love... warbmxjohn

My 360 just died...damn glad I have a PS3 and motorstorm to tied me over....consoles sometimes die, especially newly released one's.

Hmmmm...you really have to question a post like this...looking at your ranking, I would say you just came back from a ban for trolling. I know their are some defective ps3's out their, but I don't think you ever had one. What is your PSN ID..???

OMFG! I'm buying a ps3 today!!! omfg i hope it doesn't die on me like that too.... =( but i heard 8/10 xbox 360's stopped working on it's first release. that sucks more for the people who got a 360 that day. but yeah, =( i hope mine don't crap like thatddldave

Yeah Im just glad i had bad luck now while i had the sony warranty.Well they said on the phone in about a week i should get the packaging materials, and prepaid postage, and packaging instuctions, Then I would imagine a week to get back to them, then prolly a week to get back to me. Is what im really hoping for, but it may be a little bit longer.. I dont really know yet..

If you look through the forums there was a poll a few days ago and I think the final results were that 3% of ps3 owners had problems.  Compare that to 20% to 30% for the other next gen system.  You just got a lemon it happens.   Thats what a warranty is for.....crck

Crecente: One of the things that have baffled a little bit is that there are some things that stand out about the PS3. One of them would be the hardware, you guys have not had any hardware problems. Everyone else has had hardware problems at launch and the PS3 seems pretty rock solid. Why haven't you tried to market it better. I've gone through eight Xbox 360s. Nintendo less so, they've had their strap issues, but we've also had a few reports of other problems. But zero with the PS3. Harrison: It's not really surprising. Sony has a rich history of manufacturing skill and quality control going back sixty years. I come from a software background not a hardware background, but since I've been at Sony you realize there is something in the fabric of the company about the way we care about quality, the way we care about reliability, the way we care about the consumer. And so this has been played out in the fact that the Playstation One, Playstation Two and now the Playstation Three have all been incredibly well-built, incredibly reliable platforms, even though they often have been at the leading edge of available technology at the time. But to pick-up on your question why don't we market that? That's like saying you know, when did you stop beating your wife. You can never turn a perceived negative into a positive. I don't think you need to market quality, quality is something people know.

You know what I noticed?

The people who complaining about their system is a crap because it's not working are treating their system like crap.

I had a friend. He was a Romanian guy. He got his first PS2 back in 2000 or 01 was it?? anyways...I got mine like a month later.  I've seen how he treated his games and his system. If he lost in a game...he threw the joystick to the floor, he was keeping his discs on the floor kicking them all around than puting them into the PS2. He never cleand his room and there was a lot of dust in it which find it's way into the PS2 easily. He was also beating on the PS2 many times. Guess what happend. After a few months the PS2 stoped working so he was cursing Sony out. Like how Sony sucks and the system is garbage. After that he got like 3-4 PS2 along the years.

I myself never had any problem with any of my consoles till today with an exeption of one thing. Once my PS2 stoped working properly.  It stoped reading discs sometimes...I had to try like 2-3times before it got the idea! Anyway, I sent it back to Sony (after 4years) and they fixed it for me for free. After that I traded it in for a slim PS2 and that works just fine till today. I also have my PS1 from Europe and it works just fine as well.

I think the problem with the "damaged" systems really comes from the users who are buying them. I think that about 80% of the time the system brakes because the user misstreated it. For example....go into the tread where people show off their setups. I've seen a couple of pictures where the PS3 is locked inside a cabinet where it can't get fresh air and heats up quickly.....no wonder it will mailfunction.  Also I've seen a picture of a guys room where everything was all over the place...food and drinks on the floor...unfinished sheetrock wall..things like that...I wonder how he keeps out the bugs from there. Anyway, if you treat your system in a bad way...or play scrached DVD's or PS2 games in it...or do anything like that to it....why are you suprised that your system isin't working??

people get their consoles replaced after they have frozen once? thats pretty ridiculous if you ask me

The fail rate of the other guys was around 20%.  But to the original poster.  My friend I feel for ya, but the fact is no matter what you buy you can always be one of those people that got a unit that was built on a Friday afternoon fifteen minutes before closing.

Sony will take care of ya since you have the warranty.  Then you'll be right back with the rest of us!
