Since the Nintendo 3DS is being cut down to $169.99 on August 12th that gives Sony to put the PS3 as low as $229-$249. I started this thread because people said the price drop wouldn't be that big of a drop because the 3DS was $250. Your thoughts?

The price for PS3s in the UK are due to drop in October down to around £180.00 - for the 'K' series I think. (And probably due to the run up to Christmas).
The 'K' series will no longer support component cables, only HDMI - I think this is something to do with Blu-Ray Player rules, and it means you won't be able to record in HD from your PS3 as I don't think there is currenly an HDMI recorder available - at least not for a reasonable price.
Ya i know about the component cables will not be usable to watch Blu-Ray movies(for less piracy) but im pretty sure you can still play games with component cables, because you cant pirate games by recording the gameplay.
well there were rumours from like march or something of the price drop to be announced at gamescom in august which is from 17-21st if am not mistaken. so we will see a price drop then...
Not on the new PS3s as they won't have the component connector at the back! :(Ya i know about the component cables will not be usable to watch Blu-Ray movies(for less piracy) but im pretty sure you can still play games with component cables, because you cant pirate games by recording the gameplay.

darn really? i thought just for blu-ray you needed HDMI cables, meh i only have 1 HD tv and its in the main room so only play time would be in the morning and at night, well now i might not get one.( I already had a 80Gb but it got YLOD 2 days ago and repair/refurb is $202, so im hoping for the price drop to be maybe $229)
I dont think when the Vita arrives like a month after because that will hurt Vitas sales, which Sony won't want to happen so if they make the cut in September or October(which if there is one will be announced at GamesCon like others have said) would be best because when people buy a PS3 they have time to save up for a Vita if they want one which launches 2-3months after. Not to mention Ps3's Fall Lineup would be great for a price drop.I think we will see a significant price-drop for the ps3 when the PS Vita arrives.

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure. I'm gonna buy a new Slim before the 'K' series comes out just in case! There might be a price drop if the rumor of a new PSThree is true. It might be coming next year for all we know.
Same as above the 3ds price drop has nothing to do with a PS3 price drop. It has more to do with it being inferior to the Vita and lining up the price with the Vita is a bad idea. As for there being a PS3 price drop this year, my guess is slim to none. I think Sony rides out one more christmas with the PS3 at the price it is now and early next year knocks it down $50.
