True. But to say that TR is far superior to UC because it scored .5 higher in it's 'first' iteration because it stole from UC is too funny. After all, isn't that the norm these days? Steal, I mean borrow, from games to make yours better? UC borrowed from TR, TR borrowed from.... etc, etc.
 According to Metacritic, Tomb Raider sits at one point below the FIRST Uncharted. The sequels scored higher, obviously. Even if Tomb Raider was superior to Uncharted, does it matter? Uncharted was inspired by Tomb Raider, and now the reboot was inspired by Uncharted. It's a great game either way, so just enjoy it. JustPlainLucas
I love how so many people think that creative inspiration = stealing. If no creative people ever "stole" from others then there would be no games, no books, no movies, nothing of the sort at all.

Double irony, that Uncharted stole so much from TR?

Agreed.
I also feel that Far Cry 3 surpasses Uncharted for action/adventure. It's like Uncharted on steroids. It's way longer and open-world, with the same caliber of great story and acting as the Uncharted series.
Just how good Tomb Raider is remains to be seen though. And I can't wait to see.
Two completely different games, with the only similarity being the premise.
Tomb Raider is an open world (linear path with giant hubs) game with a greater emphasis on puzzles (the puzzles will actually stump you), platforming (in which you can actually die), and in this specific game, combat is prominent, too; although, unlike Uncharted, you can change your tactics when in the prescence of enemies - stealth, guns blazing, or even avoid enemies altogether by being sneaky - and with a cover system that is much more seamless. Not to mention, the rpg elements and the exploration.
Uncharted, on the other hand, is a primarily a third person shooter with light puzzles (puzzles require zero thought), "platforming" (everything is done automatically, ensuring you never die), and exploration (limited to an extremely linear path). It's all very movie-like. The writing and graphics are fantastic, though.
It all just depends on what wants in a game. No game is "superior" over the other. That's just childish.

Far Cry did not have a good story and is clearly inferior to Uncharted 2 and 3.

To each their own I guess. I felt Uncharted 3 was the weakest of the series and lacking story-wise. It also didn't have much puzzles or platforming. It was more just action set pieces and a rambling story, but I was willing to go for the ride because I already cared about the characters.
Uncharted 2 I'd give a 9.5 and put it in my Top 10 this gen. Uncharted 1 = 9. Uncharted 3 = 8.
I thought FC3 was just superb though. The characters, the setting, the different factions, the missions, the progression of the story = all A+ IMO. And I thought the mohawk pirate was the greatest bad guy this gen.
You guy do realize Uncharted didn't copy Tomb Raider, right? Uncharted is a 99.9% rip off of the book The Lost Horizon.

It did copy Tomb Raider. It's an adventure video game that focuses on action, platforming, and puzzles. As far as the exact adventure story involved... I mean obviously Nathan Drake is not Lara Croft and their adventures are not identical, but the style of game and gameplay are very similar.

Excuse me Sir, did you play any of the previous Tomb Raider games on PSx and PS2 ?. As much as people like to point it out, Uncharteds gameplay bears no similarity to Tomb Raider at all!!!!....Like not even a single bit is like Tomb Raider of the past. Take your Tomb Raider and your Uncharted and compare them side by side and you would understand how different they are, perhaps maybe its been too long and people seem to have forgotten what Tomb Raider used to be like

superior how? Coz it looks like a bad uncharted gamecampzor
Bad games get 86/87 scores on Metacritic and 8.5 on here...which equals great.
In my books, it doesn't take much to be better than Uncharted. It isn't a very good TPS, but if people want to insist it's an action adventure, it's an even worse one of those.
That being said, I don't know much about the new tomb raider, but if it's gameplay mechanics are half decent and you are in substantial control most of the time, it is as you say: superior to Uncharted.

Yes I played the original Tomb Raider. I'm 40 years old and have been playing video games since Pong in the '70s. To compare the original Tomb Raider is silly... it's 2 generations (almost 3) old. But even in the original PSx game, you had platforming, puzzles, and action... and that's what's at the heart of both series. Have you played TR Legend, Anniversary, Underworld? These play similar to Uncharted. I'm not saying Uncharted is a complete ripoff of Tomb Raider, but an adventure game that has platforming, puzzles, and 3rd person action is certainly going to owe something to Tomb Raider -- the first game of this genre. I remember the first time playing through Uncharted 1 & 2 and I'd get to a sequence of platforming and I was thinking, "this is a Tomb Raider rip-off." Not that I wasn't enjoying the game or didn't think it had it's own charm and soul, but there was no denying that something was taken from Tomb Raider.
For someone to say that Tomb Raider rips off Uncharted is way more insane-sounding to anyone who has been around longer than the current gen. The Tomb Raider reboot doesn't look like it's taken anything at all from Uncharted. The gameplay was already there. It's apparently open-worldish which Uncharted isn't. The only move they've made in an Uncharted direction is doing a more cinematic story and making Lara less of a one-dimensional cartoon character.

Sir i think you are confusing taking inspiration from with Ripoff. Here is the thing, Tomb Raider had action, puzzle, platforming isnt it. Guess what, Naughty Dogs previous games had all of those as well in Crash Bandicoot and Jack n Dexter?, suprising isnt it. Infact one can easily see elements from Crash Bandicoot in Uncharted, seamless platforming, not so difficult puzzle, focus on narrative, funny and unique characters.
My memory of the Tomb Raider games i played, you dont seamlessly run around shooting from cover to cover and jumping on ziplines while shooting and having cinematic moments along melee combat. Infact Tomb Raider wasnt much about the combat, the combat or danger was the environment Lara was exploring cause there could be a pit trap and you had to be careful and swift. You also had to learn to use the complex platforming cuz Lara felt heavy to maneuver......honestly this topic isnt even useful as i believe there isnt anything wrong with taking inspiration from a successful formula. Just perhaps going out your way defend a fact isnt going to change the fact in there. Good day to you sir :)

Uncharted 3.You mean 'Uncharted 2' and you haven't answered the question. Apart from one place name there's nothing in the game that matches the description of that book at all.
Ironic, considering that Tomb Raider stole so much from Uncharted. RPGAddict4Everyou know Tomb Raider came first right?
Tomb Raider has and always will be superior to Uncharted. Uncharted 1 was pretty good, and one reason why I purchased a PS3, then it went down hill. If they make a number 4, I will probably pass!
rrjim1
I think you're the only person in the known world to have played Uncharted 1 and think that UC 2 and 3 went downhill. UC1 feels like a PS1 game compared to how amazing 2 and 3 were!
Tomb Raider didn't borrow nothing from Uncharted it released in 1996 whereas Uncharted came out in 2007. To say the new Tomb Raider is stealing from it is a lie it's just the series needed to change.
Tomb Raider is amazing. It has exceeded my high expectations. The graphics are very impressive as well.
Personally, I find the fact that people are basing their judgements on critical receptions to be the biggest irony of them all.
Gxgear
I agree. The good thing is that that most normal people don't care and will just play both. I haven't played TR yet, but imagine that both are good games.
Neither are superior, Both have copied the same things.. The only difference are the Gender swap.
And dont come up by saying Tomb Raider is miles far superior than Uncharted because its been arround lonnger.
And dont come up by saying Uncharted has better gameplay and setpieces that defined adventure.
Both Games have that now, so as it seems.
But im not glad with the New Direction of Tomb Raider, The lack of exploration instead of Gears of War cover shooting. (just my opinion)
Well, i do have admit, this looks pretty evident, of what made Uncharted so amazing.

Ironic, considering that Tomb Raider stole so much from Uncharted. RPGAddict4Ever
Well that would be purely subjective wouldnt it.And you are not level 10.
Well, after getting 5-6 hours into Tomb Raider, I would say it's not very similar to Uncharted. It's not totally linear. There's RPG elements. The overall feel of the game isn't similar either.
So far I think the game is better than Uncharted 3, but it's not quite an awesome game like Uncharted 2.

other than setting the games are almost completely different
other than setting the games are almost completely differentxxgunslingerxx
So they don't share spelunking, puzzle solving, gunplay, treasure hunting and characters that don't like hurting people then turn out to be John Rambo in the end? Maybe I'm thinking of another game.
