So why all the outrage at Bioware for ME3?

I've tried to avoid all the ME3 chatter because I don't want the story spoiled... but I don't understand the outrage. As I understand it:

1. Mass Effect 3 has an open-ended unsatisfying ending

2. Fans complained about it

3. Bioware responds and says that they will fix it (and presumably give more closure)

What's wrong with this?

I don't know, I've heard some say this was planned all along and just an excuse for them to make us pay for more content. Havn't gotten to the game myself, but I'm all ready annoyed by the constant input of news about it.

Because the ending was a rushed, not thought out piece of crap.

The ending went against everything the series stands for and was extremely out of place.

In a character driven story the most important part is the characters and Bioware neglected that entirely.

Mass Effect has never had a very deep or complex story. It's been about the characters and the relationships with these character. The story isn't bad by any means, it's simple and serves as a good backdrop for the characters.

You can't have 3 character driven games, one of which is almost ENTIRELY character driven... and not give closure to these characters.

SPOILERS BELOW!!!!!

It's not that Shepard dies at the end that ticks people off, it's the lack of comittment to a solid ending. There is almost no closure at all and the plot-holes are everywhere.

Small things like when you are about to die, it cuts and shows very small stills of like 3 characters to server as a reminder of the journey we've been on.

No, it should have been a long memory reel of everything from stopping Saren, the showdown with Wrex, Kaidan or Ashley dying, meeting your romance choice, stopping the collectors.... etc etc etc etc.

Or at the final battle.... show that saving the Rachni queen had effect, show the Rachnni take down a reaper or something. Show the Krogans in action, possibly togehter with Turians, saving each-other. Show your crew members doing... something... Miranda and Jack teaming up with a Biotic attack (if they are alive), Grunt and Wrex kicking ass...

And don't get me started with the circular logic of the "god-child".

Ending was a rushed piece of **** and this series and the fans deserved more

I'd compare the ending with this

Imagine in return of the Jedi.

As the final battle is going on and things are tense and very exciting.

Imagine down on Endor Han Solo gets hit by a blast along with everyone else.

Han is the only one that survives the blast and via teleporter makes it up to the Death Star.

On the Death Star he meets a data program in the image of Luke telling him that he created the the force so the strong can control the populations in the galaxy with force.

However this control has shown not to work and he now gives you 3 options.

Kill "the force" and everyone who can wield it by pressing a button.

Make it so that everyone in the galaxy can use the force

Or make it so that robots and humans are now one and noone can use the force.

In everyone of these scenarios Han Solo dies and cuts to credits. You are never shown what happened to Luke or Vader. Or Leia.

You get a 10 second shot of a crash landed falcon on a paradise planet.

And to your knowledge the galaxy is for all intents and purposes doomed.

Well if you've already seen the ending or you don't care about being spoiled go here:

It goes into detail as to why people are disappointed with the ending.

I have a general sense of why people are disappointed in the original ending. The thing I'm wondering about is why people (e.g., IGN and Gamespot editors) are angry at Bioware for *changing* the ending as a result of the initial fan outrage. From what I can tell it rests on some sort of weak argument that changing a story post facto sets a dangerous precedent for future productions. But I don't see the logical connection in that.

im not outraged. i just didnt like it. there were all these failed efforts at good variety. the turret sequences are all boring because they are so hard to fail (i once missed about 10 husks that banging away at a barrier i was supposed to protect and they didnt even do any serious damage to it). theres a puzzle sequence where a guide character shouts at you any time you arent doing the right thing. theres a level where you get blinded every 5 seconds but everybody else can aim just fine. theres a cheesy sequence where you cant die followed immediately by a sequence that looks like you cant die but actually you can. mix those examples and more in with a sloppy cover system and it just felt bloated.

i actually kind of liked my ending although the rest of the story was pretty bad. i really just cant accept that all of these races cant recognize that they are about to die when its staring them in the face and they need so much prodding to realize that their squabbles are pointless. then its also unbelievable that sheppard stumbles onto one of his old super friends everywhere he goes. still, id never want bioware to go back and rewrite it. its their game, good or in this case bad.

It was a pretty mediocre ending all told, but nothing worth going crazy over. It's not as if Mass Effect 2 had a good ending, or a good story at all, for that matter. Mass Effect 3 had more problems than just its ending, like really weak tie ins to earlier game decisions, small (and mostly uninteresting) team roster, etc.

I guess it's also due to expectations... just like with LOST. People expected something entirely different.

And tbh people were also promised something entirely different.

We were promised that all of our decisions would affect the ending. This is a BW quote prior to release:

"As Mass Effect 3 is the end o a planned trilogy the developers aren't constrained by the necessity of allowing the story to diverge yet also continue into the next chapter this will result in a story that DIVERGES into WILDLY different conclusions based on the players choices in the first two chapters."

But beyond that the ending as a whole just seemed so rushed...

I was expecting to SEE the impact of having the Rachni at your side in the final battle... I expected to see them in action, making a difference.

Truth is you get to see very little of the final battle... it just kind of unfolds in the background while you do other stuff. Your secret mission should have been intertwined with shots from the battle. And the sstuff you do see is exactly the same no matter what.

Bioware kind of played us all with the series, they promised all these things but in the end they just cashed in on the final chapter and got extremely lazy with the conclusion.

We expected something different based on promises Bioware gave us. Bioware went back on their word leaving many fans feeling cheated.

That is what all the outrage is about. The game on its own is a really good game up until the last 10-20 minutes.

Bioware also promised to NOT do a LOST and leave fans with more questions than answers and to have the game end in WILDLY different conclusions.

When you make promises and don't even make an effort to keep them fans are going to be upset

Gamers are whiny, immature, and self entitled, so when Mass Effect 3 was a step back from Mass Effect 2, they nerd raged.

It happens all the time.

Dude, gamers pay good money for the games they play, as customers they have every right to not be happy with what they paid for.

Some ppl like to act like gaming companies are all just there to please us and we should be grateful for everything we get.

Video game companies get away with so much **** already like day one dlc or worse DLC that is locked on discs, or attacking the used-games market, all of which are destructive towards the consumer and fans.

When they promise fans certain things about a game which they did with ME3 and then don't make an effort to deliver, obviously fans are going to be unhappy.

I can understand the outrage of not seeing your hard work and decision making played out. But as for the b****ing about Bioware caving into demands, some people like to b**** for the sake of b****ing.

And clearly it's working because Bioware are caving in giving the fans exactly what they want. :) Which remains to be seen but it's pretty obvious they're going to do something about the ending at this point. So clearly these whiny, immature fans have had some influence on the game developers, same reason your precious FFXIII-2 exists in it's current form because people complained about FFXIII.

Apparently the choices you make throughout don't really make any difference when it comes to the conclusion, ultimately defeating the object of having choices in the first place. I don't like the series anyway, so I can't say I'm bothered at all.
