The wait is (hopefully) over. Zipper Interactive has invited 18 members of the SOCOM community to play-test the game this Thursday January 28th. On Friday January 29th they will have Kevin Schmitt, the multiplayer lead designer, on their bi-weekly podcast called 'Zipline'.

For all intents and purposes, some franchise core-shaking questions should be answered. Will there be health regeneration in MP? Will there be respawn in ranked games? Will it be anything like previous SOCOMs or would it be better named, "SOCOM: Call of Duty"?

The long wait for actual information since the game was officially announced in May of '09 is over.A near5 month media blackout after initial gameplay videos and statements about the game received very negative feedback is over!

Did they take anything the community said into mind, or did they push on without caring? Time to find out!

The million dollar question is will the game truly be back to the roots of the great Socom 2? Will this be another Seth tangent like the path the series has been on since Socom 3? The series hasn't been a flop, but Socom 2 was when it was at its popularity peak. The nightly numbers for Socom 2 even 2 years after launch far exceeded any Socom since. To me the biggest question is map design. Are they going back to the single mode maps, or sticking with this multi-mode map garbage. Socom 2 had over 20 very well designed maps all for a specific game mode type. Breach, Escort, and Extraction have since become extinct because multi-mode maps are too generic in layout to make these modes interesting at all. Multi-mode maps now just stand for Suppression and Demolition because that is all they are good for. The whole reason why I got into Socom was the feeling of assaulting the beach to free prisoners on Fish Hook, or working my way down the tunnels on Death Trap, or breaching the mountain stronghold on Enowapi, or escorting hostages through the fields of Fox Hunt. The maps were so well designed around a single mode that the atmosphere was almost tangible. That hasn't been the case since, and is what will truly separate this series from a COD Search and Destroy game.

Could not have said it any better myself. Amen, brother.
