The game (technical issues aside) is amazing.. the graphics won't win any awards but they're clean and easy on the eyes, the sound is outstounding, of course the gunfire is the best feature there.. with really good echo effects and the like.. it sounds like all out war at times... the headset is the best one availible for PS3, crystal clear audio and really great sort of "hud" for the mic on screen that tells you whenever you change a settings (ie tells you if you're muted and stuff)

its perfect Socom, if you're not big on tactical games though than don't bother.

i agree with americahellyeah, its an awesome game. super fun. graphics aint the best, but they look good and are very detailed and have lots of destructible (exploding) different things. the maps are very varied, from an old greek looking mountainside with pantheon lookin structures and a cave/tunnel system and large bodies of water, to a massive modern lookin city thats been blown to bits exposing large pipelines and underground tunnels huge hotels and apartment building and a big stadium etc.

the maps are much much better designs than cod4. cod4 graphics and framerates are amazing, but their map designs pale in comparison. these are massive and very intricate.

if you i never played a socom online before, i only played socom 1 single player. thought it was awesome, thats it.

but that was years ago and now i regret never taking it online! lol

also worth noting is the excellent sound design. the guns are loud, crisp, and clear and intense as ever. if you have a decent surround sound set up you are in for a real treat. take for instance how voice chat is handled. you hold R2 to use your walkie-talkie type thing, you'll hear a beep in you head set when you click it on or off. but heres the cool part, you only need to use the talkie when you are far away from you're teamates, when you are nearby eachother, you just talk like you normally would. and because of the surround sound, you can hear what direction and how far away they are when they are talking. its amazing. and since this game is not a solo thing at all, unlike cod4 where eavesdrop perk is useless, you can be stealthy and here enemies chatter if theyre nearby, its super cool if you hear somebody. the sound design even surprises me sometimes, in a wide open area like out on the mountain side, the guns sounds loud and dissipate.but in big enclosed area like a parking garage they have that sort of echo sound to them like they would in real life. sometimes its crazy you'll even hear echoes of explosions in the distance and think for a second its coming from behind you.

but anyways, the community is fantastic too. no cod4 whiners and s*** talker types here. everyone is cool to eachother and wants to help each other out. when you are playing everyone is constantly looking out for eacthother. and you can only talk to enemy players between games, not rounds, so no bad mouthing during games, just strategizings and chit chatting. one thing i noticed a lot was everyone likes the game, and its a true testament to the game that so many are willing to put up with these problems. everyone is very positive, they just say hey its okay it will be fixed soon it was always this way with socom.

the head set rocks too, very nice quality and comes with a nice charger stand.

just so your not confused about the voice chat, im tired i may have explained it poorly. when you are nearbly any players, teammates or opposing players, you can hear them through your tv or surround sound speakers like theyre really infront of you talking straight to you. its an ecxellent way of building community online. me and a close friend of mine ran around on the maps together playing team death matches just chatting away and joking about nonsense and it almost feels like theyre right in the room with you. its very cool

The game is pretty much what I wanted out of Socom 3 years ago. The maps are clever and very well designed. Like the Socom 1 and 2 maps, they have a very good blend of open space and cover with a lot of different paths to take through the maps. The remade old maps (Crossroads, Desert Glory, and Frostfire) turned out better than expected. The graphics overall are very good and in some ways better than the cartoony stuff in COD4. The addition of sprint and the knife has been very welcome and enhances the game nicely. Grenades are harder to throw which can be nice at times. You dont have to worry about being grenaded in your spawn anymore at the beginning of a round. Overall, I would give it an 8. I would give it higher but the community features are lacking. In particular, you cant see what game your friends are in, or join their game from a clan or friends list. Supposedly these are coming. For now you have to message each other through the XMB. Still its definitely worth picking up the headset version, or even the $40 stand alone.

i am new to the SOCOM series, and am having a blast playing the game..... got it last saturday and am getting quite addicted to it :)

I chose the over the shoulder view since i find it better for me.... the game can be fast paced and you can enjoy some run&gun moments (they're fun), however its when you get more tactical that you get to enjoy this game.... being in a good team where there is constant communication helps a lot and makes the game so much better...

personally i suggest that any SOCOM fans or else shooter fans would give this game a try and not let the current talks about server issues effect their decision.. yes there are some problems but there are not as huge as many believe....

A headset period is essential. There's a LOT of chatter on Socom. Whether its calling out enemies or strategizing. Its one of the reasons I love playing Socom so much, teamwork and a great community

if the game didnt contain the problems that it does (which will hopefully be patched soon) i can easily say it deserves a 9. i love the game and try to block out the issues when i play.

Why can't people be honest? Anyways, listen to me, I speak the truth. Socom: Confrontation is HORRIBLE, do not buy it. The game is muddles with crappy gameplay that doesn't feel fluid when you're shooting people. The graphics are disgusting, almost resemble Nintendo like graphics. No new elements or moves at your disposal. Plain and simple Sony just made a quick game to make a buck off of the saps who are willing to fall for anything they give you. Typical fanboys buy into that, and anything else. Not me sir. Dude honestly the game is no good, so just pass on it. I would hate for you to get this game only to realize that a bunch of people lied to you because of personal fanboy reasons...now Little Big Planet...that's the game too get.

Do you got the retail version? Just a question that needs to be cleared up. Also you have hated on pretty much any ps3 game, heck you gave Drakes fortune a 7.0 lol. I don't know if you own a ps3 or just play a friends cause only 1 game for the ps3 in your list of games with about 20 360 games listed lol. Please move on.

P.S. To the TC its everything that the guys up top said (except the guy prior to me lol)and more. I'm currently addicted again to Socom after a long time off from Socom 1 and Socom 2 and hadn't felt this way since getting over cod4:)

Wow talk about fanboy and then you ride LBP....your typical because EVERYONE has been sweating this game. SOCOM confrontation does not suck. Just say it is not your cup of tea and leave it at that. This game will get at least a 8.3 and is better than half of the shooters out there.

The game itself was very fun, for those 5 minutes it let me log in and play. Now the servers are down, and its not so fun. Go figure.

I do own a PS3, it's just that I dopn't have many games for it, and I'm not going to get into why that's the case because it's pretty obvious. Anyways, I have not hated on "pretty much any PS3 game," I've been critical of some of the games that lack why most of us paid $500 and $600 forhardware that's suppose to be the best of the best but still yet we don't see it. So excuse me for the lack-there-of of anything that stands out to me other than MGS4 and LBP (and you're way off topic to what the discussion is here).

According to the score it got and many other sub-par scores, the game does suck. It got a 6.5 here @ Gamespot & that's pretty bad, and from playing myself I can see why it got that bad of an score. The game should've been much better than what it is. I'm sorry but with the power the PS3 holds, there's no excuses for games like this to be released (especially with the many issues it has)...I am just sorry but there's... NO... excuses!

he's ALWAYS on the forums blasting every single ps3. he has no idea what he is talking about.

i've been playing hours on end daily on socom and haven't had any significant issues, say for lag that comes and goes, and rarely but it definitely happens it just freezes.

you think its horrible? maybe that why there is tens of thousands playing online whenever i go on it, and everyone is saying the same things, hey these bugs sure do suck but this game rules so im really hoping they fix it all with a patch soon

they only thing that gamespot review said was bad was technical issues. thats it. this is online only. cod4 sucked at first, warhawk sucked at first, gat4 sucked at first, etc, etc, etc, etc, so sure this game is buggy but not enough to warrant the 6.5 if its sure to be fixed up very soon.

how is it that i have played well over severals dozens of matches if it was so damn unbearable?!?!
