Dude the massive pre orders prove the contrary...looks like people simply didn't wanted to wait and freeze making a line knowing they had a PS3 assured and Sony said there will be enough to buy it with out pre orders
My video store also has 30 copies of Kill Bill hanging on the wall every time I go there. >.> But seriously, I just woke up and saw the news on German TV: Seems like there was quite some crowd and the reported talked about a "high demand despite the high price". And yeah, what the hell did people expect on the 21st? Europeans don't line up for days to get a console or a movie ticket. This website is just really trying hard to put a negative spin to it (cause I'm surprised that anybody would line up 2 days in advance here).
Why would you wait in line if you had a pre-order in the first place? In the US we had to wait in line because there were no units to go around. With the 4 month delay, Europe had plenty of units for pre-orders and walk ins. There was no need to line up unless you had to get it at midnight. Of course, the lucky few also got a free TV.
yep looks like GS tried to put a negative spin on it. I mean really if you can preorder one and pick it up the next day why not? Especially on a work night.
reasons why there are no lines: 1. Pre-Orders: Why do you pre-order? So you don't have to wait all night for something but can simply walk into the store the day it comes out and get it (at least that's what I'm gonna do in an hour) 2. Supply: The reason there is a line at launches is people who want to sell it on ebay and people who want to get one before the people who want to sell it on ebay. With the high supply Sony is shipping on day one, ebay auctions are rare since there's not much of a profit to be made.
Also there has been allot said about the delay to us in Europe giving Sony a bit of time to stockpile PS3's for the European launch. You have still been able to pre-order PS3's for release day guaranteed until extremely recently. Now we won't know if this is because demand is low or because Sony has finally done a good job at releasing enough stock for a launch until official figures are released, though Sony could massage these if they choose to.
The last thing to say is I'm not boycotting. I will be getting mine today and it will be made to feel at home alongside my xBox 360.
