I personally have never had trouble with the PS controller but then again i also never had a 360. But look at the bright side at least the D-pad on the PS controller isnt complete crap like the 360 one
I'm confused. Enlighten me.The Dualshock 3 is not outdated. The triggers are bad, I'll agree with you on that. You saying the controller is small I don't think is a valid argument on why it's bad, otherwise I can turn it around and just say the Xbox controllers are too big. The thumbsticks is opinion, I don't find them in a bad position, I prefer the d-pad where it is on the dualshock, so I'm fine with the analog stick being where it is. Anyway, I was just saying all the above things in case someone interested in the PS3 was concerned if the controllers were that bad. As for if you'll get used to them, my friend got used to the PS3 controllers at my house (he has a 360) at first he thought they were small but learnt to adjust his hands to a better position that he finds comfortable. The triggers are bad, I don't really care personally, not that I don't realize they are bad, I know they are I just have learnt not to care (I still argure though that the analog sticks aren't as bad as everyone claims, but they are bad). The analog sticks are definately something you can get used to. I'd say give it a month or two, then if you still find that you can't stand them then get the adaptor.
The PS3 has recently supplanted the 360 as my console of choice. So far, I have not regretted the purchase. But there is one thing that irks and anguishes me to the point of being completely turned off by shooters: the damn controller. Honestly. It is one of the most outdated and archaic pieces of **** that I have ever had to play with in my life. The bottom triggers (R2 + L2) are horrible, "cheap" and feel extremely awkward when pressed. The controller feels far too small and combined with the awkwardly placed thumb-sticks, my hands end up feeling as if an obese woman just salsa'd on both of them after merely two hours of gameplay.
So. Tell me. Is it just me and will I ever get used to these awkward and stubbornly inefficient controllers? I contemplated on buying an XCM Cross Battle Adapter, but they cost around $80 (I have to buy the new ones because the old $30 ones aren't compatible with PS3 slims) and my wallet cannot quite swallow the price quite yet (I am a new PS3 owner, as aforementioned). I completely agree with you on how the controller is awkward to hold, however worth it to play exclusives such as God of War. You could get something like these trigger gripsfrom Amazon. Wal-mart also carried them last time I checked (a year ago). I dislike how your finger easily slides off the R2 & L2 buttons. Also the angle at which the buttons go in as well as the length at which you have to push it in is strange and annoying. I prefer the R1 button to shoot for that reason. I really would have preferred the controller to stay the same as the PS2's.

Well being in a similiar situation as you, I would have to say that you'll get used to the controller. I too feel that the 360 controller is better(the D-Pad does its job), but from my experience so far(Uncharted Series, Infamous, etc.), the aiming and shooting is taken care of by the L1 R1 buttons. I also was looking into that Cross Battle Adapter, and while it is a great idea, unless a game gives you the option to change your contros however you want, you'll be stuck with the 360 bumpers(If the game uses L1 R1 to aim+shoot). Check the product reviews on amazon for more information.
I know Killzone 2 and Uncharted 2 still get played. I have not played Killzone 2 so I can't comment on that. I have played Uncharted 2 online, it is very fun, but there are definately titles out there that will give you a deeper multiplayer experience. I have no idea about Metal Gear however. While I'm here, I a may as well kill two birds with one-stone. Do people still play Killzone 2 and Uncharted 2 along with Metal Gear Online. Would you personally recommend buying any of those games almost exclusively for theirmulti-playerportions?

I wouldn't buy ANY game exclusively for their MP portions. You seriously consider buying UC 2 and MGS4 and skipping some of the best campaigns this gen? Seriously :( On DS3: R1 and L1 make FAR better triggers than L2 and R2 (the so-called "triggers"). Almost every FPS uses those with good reason. While I'm here, I a may as well kill two birds with one-stone. Do people still play Killzone 2 and Uncharted 2 along with Metal Gear Online. I love the DS3 controller, minus L2/R2. DS2 is definitely my favorite. And also, I don't see what placement of the analog sticks really has to do with anything or having them in a different position than they are makes it superior. They're just fine to me and have been for a long time. Must just be you.
at gamestop they have the trigger attachments, they really really help. youll get used to it and i think youll find the analog sticks to be way more accurate than the 360 analogs
You are just not used to the controller. The triggers are annoying. I will agree with you on that front. As far as the analog stick thing. I like the places they are in. I hate on the Xbox how it has the left one in the center and the right one going diagonally from the left one. I like that the PS3 analog sticks are parallel to one another. I hate the asymmetric analog sticks of the Xbox. You probably didn't own a PS2 last generation did you? It just depends on what you are used to. I have been playing with this type of controller since SNES so I am well accustomed to it. Each system has their own faults. I could say the same about the Xbox D-pad that you do about the trigger buttons.
The triggers suck, but you can buy triggers for it and then they are much improved.
You can also buy a different controller, Sony allows people besides themselves to make them.
i have both, the 360 only for fable and halo. saying that i prefer the ps3 controller a lot more than the 360 controller. also i broke my left thumb and still have pain in it (as there is a bone chip left in there) and to me the analog stick is more comfortable to reach on my ps3 controller than the 360's over long use. and i have no trouble with the triggers, all of that is personal opinion.
Thanks guys. Can anyone here recommend White Knight Chronicles? I'm a level 5 fan (Dark Chronicle, Dark Cloud, Rogue Galaxy). The critics have given this game pretty mediocre reviews, yet user reviews are all quite possible. BTW, are there only forrests and castles to explore?
You will get use to it.
I personally can't shoot or aim with Xbox controller nearly as accurate and fast as I do with dualshock 3. The LB and RB are too far and awkward for me, while L1 and R1 are closer, faster and more responsive in my case.
But I do agree that L2 and R2 are really not so good in shooting genre games, especially when developer simply ports controls on PS3 (L2+R2) without realising that PS3 controller has different hands layout when it comes to FPS games, or they simply don't pay attention.
And to respond to your other question...
Uncharted 2 has a very active multiplayer. The only problem is that you are gonna be running into experienced players VERY often. I don't see many low levels any more. It's gonna be tough from the get go, but it's still fun.
You're probably just not used to the PS3 controller yet. When I first played my friend's Xbox 360 my k/d ratio was 1:12 on COD, now I think it's just as comfortable as the Playstation's. Also, they make controllers for the PS3 that are exactly like the 360's controller.
Spend $5 or just adapt to it?
thats about all i can say.
personally i don't have a single problem with the Ps3 triggers. Maybe your just not used to them yet.
It's a control pad at the end of the day. Still subpar to mouse & keyboard for playing FPS.
Having now owned both a PS3 and Xbox 360, I probably prefer the 360s pad slightly but I hardly find the dual shock pad unusable. The 360 controller had a couple of things wrong with it too - I hate the D-Pad and the way the grips rub off the analogue sticks after 5 seconds.
Maybe the TC just has to get used to it. I'm exactly the same with a 360 controller. I don't like the bumper or trigger palcement. Or anything about it really.
i am soooo glad you spent a thread to voice your opinion. Anyways, I dont have a problem with the L2 and R2, i think the other system's triggers are complete crap, they are too springy and hard to press, IMO. Also, the PS controller has a way better D-Pad. BUT, I will admit I am not a huge fan of the analog placement on the PS controller.
I prefer the analog stick locations ,as I like having my thumbs level with each other, and most games use R1 and L1 to shoot, it may feel bad at first, but it feels fine once you get used to it, and the R2 and L2 do feel pretty awkward (not as awkward as LB and RB though), but they aren't used a lot in games, and there is some trigger guard thing you can get to make them feel better, I heard it works pretty good, though I've never used it.
i have been playing with the dual shock since the days of the PS1. I have huge hands so if i can kick ass on cod with it then anyone can.
Buy a dam xcm, problem solve. Thats what i did, except is for my x60 so i can use my ps3 controller on it lol. So it all comes down to preference.
Itll take some timeto get used to it but youll still prefer your favorite controller. save up and get a xcm, dont they make a convertor for like $30 with no button mapping?
