My PS3 is almost maxed out (making room for DCUO Beta was H E double hockey sticks), so I just want to know, how much data will I lose? I know you can transfer save data (some of it, at least) but a lot of data will be lost, right? Trophies is saved to my profile, so they're safe, but what else? Also, are there any hard drives that aren't compatible with a PS3? Thanks

(P.S. Sorry if this is FAIL question)

If you're simply upgrading the harddrive, use the back up data option in system settings and you shouldn't lose a thing. The ps3 will accept any 2.5" harddrive.

Yah i did this and did not lose anything at all, just for future keep your old PS3 HDD somewhere safe, if your ps3 breaks and you decide you want to exchange it for some offer possibly you need to have the original HDD with the system. just to keep your options open

Put everything onto a USB 8G flash drive then install your 500gb 2.5 inch 5400rpm SATA HDD. Then copy everything from your flashdrive onto your 500gb HDD.

not when using the back up feature, if you copied like a game save and then went to another ps3 to upload it you would lose trophy support and such like that

So I bought a new HHD for my ps3. I put it in and it said that I need a software update disk. I found one from a friend but that didn't work so I tried it from the playstation support site but it down loads as an empty file. What do I do?
