I'm in California and someone just tried to use my credit card in a Target in Brooklyn. I didn't have that much money left on my card so it declined and CitiBank called me to verify the fraudulent activity and then cancel the card. People seem to be saying that without the security code, you have nothing to worry about. I work at a retail store and we let people type their card number in if it wont scan and you don't need a security code for that.

You should really cancel your cards if you haven't already. At least the credit card companies are keeping a close eye on this kind of thing and I didn't end up losing any money. Mind you, I have no proof this was PSN related, but I don't use this card for any online purchases and I've never had my card numbers stolen before this PSN fiasco.

I got some spam today in my hotmail account. Darn you PSN for leaking out my email address..... I did report my card stolen online pretty much as soon as the PSN hack was reported. Better to be safe than sorry. I should be getting a new card with new number pretty soon in the mail.

are you seriously asking him to show proof that someone used his credit card? he doesn't have to prove that to you because your not related to him and you don't know him so this kind of thing is none of your business

I agree that anyone that used a card on PSN should play it safe. Also though, there's no indication that this is connected because people frequently try this kind of thing.

So you sent the hackers your card did you?

How can they type in your number or even initiate a scan if they don't have a card to start with?

Smells like BS to me.

You're right, anything that can't be proven shouldn't be discussed.

Something this serious, which has been proven to be faked by so many people, should be proven some way. I don't think any CC data has been stolen.

Think about it for a second. It seems a lot of forum-dwellers seem to be experiencing these problems of CC fraud. If many of these cases are to be believed, imagine how many people are affected that haven't complained about it. Then do the math and you'll notice that this problem would be pretty big news if it was real. I'm pretty sure the government would be talking about it if it was the result of the breach, as millions of PSN users in the US would be affected by it.

I wouldn't necessarily blame PSN for this. Google "Citibank Hacked" And see how many times your information has been stollen from them. Most people don't realize it, but bank of america, citibank, and a ton of other CC and Bank companies were hacked directly in the last year or so. Some in the last few months.

WELL fake card or not,it is pretty poor work practice to allow a transaction if the card does not work...You don't need to be a rocket scientist to think that something may be shady...But hey,no...this guy looks honest...just because his card is dodgy is no reason for me not to let him purchase something.

This means that every act of a credit card being used by someone who just happens to own a PS3 is because PSN was hacked, Sony already said everything was encrypted concerning our credit card data, before this hack people were still having their money taken even though they owned a PS3 it's just the way of life. With the tiny numbers of people who have made these threads it's nothing more than coincidence.

It's getting harder and harder to believe these type of threads. It's too easy to make something up in order to spread fear.

There are hundreds of ways for a person to get your credit card information, including those scanning devices that can rip your info. straight off the card while the thief is simply walking by you. Without something a little more concrete I'd say that this is simply an unfortunate coincidence and nothing for the rest of us to get overly worried about.

Really?

I'm surprised a major store woud allow that.

I work in retail too, and we won't even let customers swipe their credit cards if they have the chip on them. We certainly never let any one punch in the numbers.

Sorry to hear that. If you haven't already, I would suggest changing your passwords to any of your accounts that shared the same log in details as you PSN account. Don't want them to gain further access.

Also, if haven't already, read this thread. It's got lots of info on how to deal with credit card theft and such.
