Ok, so I just watched the Sony demo for their new motion controls. They look a little bit better then the Wii's but still gimmicky crap overall. The fighting games looked really slow and unresponsive, I punch a lot faster then the guy doing the demo and it didn't really keep up with him. Then they showed Socom, but oh what a surprise, it uses a fairly traditional control scheme. I'd rather use the standard controller thanks.

I realize of course that Sony wants a piece of the "casual" pie Nintendo has the majority of, but it seems like too little too late. The PS3 is perfectly good on it's own, they should have put that development time and resources toward something worthwhile.

Yeah i agree with u. I wasnt impressed with it either. I know i wont be spending $100 for the starter kit. I will stick to the regular controller.

I feel this is a worthwhile use of their money. I may not be the one to get Playstation Move, but their campaign since the slim has been aimed at the casual. The whole it does "Everything" slogan and commercials where families are playing together. Sales sky rocketed with the new campaign along with the price drop. There's an enormous casual market out there, the more gamers there are the better. As long as people buy hardcore games they will still be making them so don't worry, no company turns down free money.

I'm looking forward to it -- looks fun. I don't think I'll ever opt for it as a primary control scheme like they showed in the Socom demo, but as an extra for things like LittleBigPlanet? Hell yeah

I saw very few things that sparked my interest, but this is still a good thing in a way. A. Due to motion controls massive appeal to the casual market this could be the deciding factor for a lot of families looking into moderate gaming and ultimately increase the install base of the PS3 by quite a lot. B. It will (I hope but doubt) increase Nintendo's competitiveness and convince them to start looking into better hardware and catching up with the times. The fact that the Wii isn't in HD, doesn't play DVDs, and has virtually no storage space.... baffling. C. Punching stuff by actually moving your arms is better than shaking your wrist in front of your crotch any day.

I'm indifferent on the motion controls but I'm just pissed that SOCOM 4 doesnt look like the SOCOM I know... more zoomed in camera, snap cover, sprint, slow movement when shooting... eh...

From a business point of view it will be worth it, you have no idea how much money Sony will make from this product in the long run.

Besides, if you don't like the idea of it then just leave it alone and continue enjoying your DS3.

well those demo were all working titles so they aren't really going to have tight controls yet so kind of hard to judge. then on the other hand it is an option thing i think if utilized correctly they can make great games for it rather than tackin on the motion control.

I don't really know what to think of it to be honest. When the PS3 was first released, I was not impressed. I thought that sony had rushed things, and the library of games they had lined up looked awful, not to mention how stupid I thought the sixaxes motion crap they had with the controllers. However now I wouldn't go with any system BUT the PS3, and that alone gives me faith in sony and their new motion controllers. But that's just me.

Well, if you're a Sony fan, this is good news whether you like the PSmove or not. I mean we all know kids love their shovelware games, so Eyepet is gonna make tons of money off the casual market and a pet is less creepier than a little boy (Milo, in case it wasn't clear).

Another thing is that unlike 2008 and a little of 2009, Sony is attacking with its products, whereas before they let Microsoft and Nintendo walk all over them.

On the downside, yes, there are gimicky add ons. But I want to know how many PSmoves can the camera track? The fighting game needs two, so does that mean no local multiplayer or you have to get four Moves just to play 2 players.

Too early to judge, so far it's a good motion controller and satisfied with the result. I'm more curious about what Sony can do with it next. I'm expecting something impressive cause Sony like to take risk.

I'm hearing rumors that KZ3 may be 3D and motion controller enabled... That could be dope.... The PS Move controller seems to be very accurate and responsive to the tinest little detail... If they have good ideas for it then it may succeed if they don't you could see alot of dusty Move controllers much like my Wii controllers were dusty when I traded in my Wii before the last price cut... I'll take a wait and see approach with it...

The controller itself is optional and would have to get a massive install base like WM+ has and will only get larger with the likes of Zelda Wii. What I find hilarious is how they in no way made any attempt to hide that they are just following Nintendo.

And for the love of God people, there is no such thing as a casual market, its all just one mainstream market.

People need to keep in mind that all of those games were very unfinished. Some were pre alpha.

Then they showed Socom, but oh what a surprise, it uses a fairly traditional control scheme.

Delius

Absolutely not, the crosshairs didn't stay fixed in the center of the screen like all FPS games do, letting you move the character with the left hand including crouching, and aiming upper left, or center low if you want in his line of vision, thus separating his overall vision and where he acually shoots. This may have been used with some Wii games, but with limited precision. This is the problem - which now I understand is a logic problem - I've always had with FPS games, you don't have to aim and shoot exactly in the center of your vision, you can aim with your arm anywhere in your vision, like what we did with House of the Dead wwhen you moved the gun, except you'll be able to move on the battlefield too, which changes absolutely everything.

I think the games looked pretty cool, especially since being in HD and working with precise movements. Wii games are fun, but they lose their appeal cause of the fact the enviroments look aweful. Also the fighting game, I can see alot of drinking parties with that one lol.

Also I think the ps eye can track a few wands at a time, but each will have to have different colors (or same color per team), I do wish they would have said how many colors the ball can generate on the move, that would have been some cool info to know inorder to think how many people can play or items can be used.

Not everyone is going to want this but to think this won't be benefical to Sonyis just being crazy.

Quite the opposite actually, Sony will make a nice profit from this product, not only will it give Wii users a new excuse to buy a PS3 but it'll appeal to a lot of people who already own the console but don't feel like getting a Wii. People said the same thing about Home too "waaah, such a waste of money that Sony could of spent on a single game!" - Sony could of invested that money into a game for sure, a game that might of sold a few million copies and kept them happy for a while, or they could of invested that money into a long term product and get a bigger profit over the course of 5 or so years. The only thing I'm worried about is the price, Sony have a habit of overpricing new products.

how do you Market Move to the wii audience. I mean a PS3 bundle with the move will boost up the price. and having this audience buy a PS3 then the "Move" is a gamble.

I don't know if it is worthn 100 dollars. They didn't really show off anything really. At least we are getting some core titles that will support it like Socom, Resident Evil 5 and Little Big Planet. At least they are already getting support from companies to do something with it. The reason I did not pick up a motion plus for the Wii is because there are only like 6 or so games that use it and the thing has been out for over half a year. Provided that the games really use the precision that Sony claims is there, this might be cool.

Of course it's a gamble but what isn't a gamble these days? New IPs and new products have a lot risk behind it. You have to take risks in order to progress the industry.

They said the price would be under $100, sure that could mean $99.99 or it could mean something around $60-70. Check out the list of devolopers that are interested in making games using the Move, it's quite big. :]

I disagree on the wii users portion, I mean think about it, people that only own a wii, you think they care about graphics and HD? hell no, at least the great majority of them, they will just think "meh, I can do the same on my wii so why bother?".

Also people that already have a wii in conjunction with a ps3 will be unimpressed(unless they show something REALLY awesome in the coming months, or at E3), because again, apart from the pretty graphics there's nothing new going on, I myself can attest to that.

the only thing I agree is that ps3 only users will be inclined to try it out, that's why I think it won't be a complete failure, but I doubt it will be a success as ell...

Try again 1) Sony haven't even told you the price yet, they've merely said "under $100" which could mean it would sell for as little as $60-80. 2) The bundle will include all those minigames you saw in the conference, meaning you don't have to spend $60 on a game unless you WANTED to.

indeed, in the end it all comes down to software, you can have the most advanced system ever but if it doesn't have some killer apps to go with it you're toast and, at least imo, this GDC presentation failed to impress, though it is to be espected that they are keeping their bigger guns for E3, and unless it is something incredibly awesome I won't even consider getting this.

The sword fighting game looked fun, but that was about it for myself. But really Move is not really made for hardcore gamers that would be coming to sites like this. They are trying to bring in people that would also get a wii. So the question is will it work? And even if they get a few more people will they really stay or will they just pick up Move and a few bluerays and that's about it? The thing is I don't really see the people that get a PS3 just for Move ever really making a jump to the more normal/hardcore games like GoW. And the same can be said for 360 and natal. I feel like they could both get a few of the hardcore and casual gamers to pick it up, but will they be able to keep them entertained to the point that they want more?

The only reason I feel that natal may have more of a edge when it comes to getting the casual and wii gamers is that to the uninformed natal seems different while for them Move just seems to be more of the same. Again I am talking about the more casual and uninformed, the ones that won't be going on sites like here to find out that Move is a lot better than the wii

Obviously you aren't the kind of gamer Sony is trying to appeal to with this accessory in the first place then. You know who this is targeted at as well as I do.
