I cannot wait for this to wear off, could a mod maybe make this sticky or something? It is quite the big news afterall. Oh wait nevermind no one uses the recommendation thread so making this a sticky would be pretty useless.
After getting a 360 recently, I honestly don't think not having cross-game chat is really a bad thing. Sure it is nice to talk to friends online once in a while, but I lot of times I just like to play without conversing to other (singleplayer games especially). And anyway, this wasn't really Sony's decision, rather it was the fact that the way the PS3 uses RAM makes it unable to do cross-game chat and play games at the same time.
That's a shame for the people who wanted it, personally I never used the feature on my 360 so I probably wouldn't even use it on my PS3. Well at least the Vita has it, which means the next Playstation console will too.

Agreed, I use to hate when people wanted to chat with me(on XBL)while I was in the middle of a game. I don't have a problem with chatting "IF" we are in the same MP game but other then that....leave me alone!!!! :P

It's not like they're aren't other ways of communicating. And honestly, if it was a must-have feature for someone they would have gotten a 360. For anyone who bought a PS3 already, this probably isn't a big deal.

But phones have this pesky thing where you have to pay for long distance and pay for minutes and you can max out at 4 people on the phone only if you pay extra... So maybe phones are not the greatest idea ever.
Pretty sad that we'll never see this feature. Sending text messages back and forth is just too much of a hassle. It makes it a lot easier to talk with someone if there are problems getting into a lobby or if you just don't want to hear all the brats in a multiplayer game. I understand there are some people out there that just want to play their games alone but for me I like to share my experiences with my friends while we play different games so saying it's not needed and useless is absurd. I would've gladly paid for PS+ just for this.

Forever alone! I only have a handful of friends on the PSN, I barely speak to any of them.Not only do I rarely if ever speak to the few friends on my list but I pretty much dislike chatting while playing all together. It's distracting and 99% of the time pointless.

How would you feel if I kept calling you while your in the middle of watching porn or some other really good movie? Some people just like to enjoy their SP games with no distractions....and there are people on XBL(I've been on LIVE for years)who are the exact same way.

You could just sign out of XBL or set it to appear offline if you aren't in the talking mood. The lack of party chat is one of a few reasons why my PS3 is just for exclusive and all multiplat games are purchased for my 360.

Hate to break it to you, but PS3 has auto aim as well.
I never cared for it anyway. When I game, whether it be the PS3, 360, or whatever, I sign off so that no one can message me, I turn off all notifications on my phone except phone calls (incase it's something important) and sign out of everything on the computer. I simply do not want to be interupted. But, it's unfortunate for those who find it useful. I did see some valid points from other users in this thread.
