I just made this petition, so Sony hopefully adds XMB access during gameplay. Sign it if you want the same.

To: Sony Computer Entertainment America Sony, we want access to the XMB in game including custom soundtracks. At GDC 06 you showed access to the XMB, and so did early dev kits but they haven't made it to the final console. Early research suggested PS3 reserves 64mb of the main RAM for the XMB, but we currently have no access to the XMB at all during games. Please add this through a firmware upgrade to the PS3.
I think they should deal with other stuff first than this. One of my concern for ps3s is that the xbox 360 can access MSN but ps3 needs to be able to upload msn somehow even though microsoft made msn its still a pretty big hit. (Aswell as 75% game demos).

If Sony would allow us to access the XMB when ever we like in the next firmware update, it would be a dream come true. Hopefully, this petition would help Sony to speed things up.

If we could get this to a site like KOTAKU or QJ.NET or N4G, then a lot of users would see it and sign it, which would get Sony's attention like the DMC4 petition did.

uhhhhh......by accessing the XMB in game.....means you can do custom soundtracks....duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh........and youll be able to look up game tips on the internet.......check messages......etc.......its the only thing that sony needs to add.....XMB In-Game Access.......after that i couldnt care less what they update......

60 signatures but we need more for Sony to see. And don't say this won't work, because remember the DMC4 petition? Capcom even saw that and responded to it.
yeah, and do you remember how utterly stupid the dmc4 petition was? and do you remember how capcom's response to the petition was essentially "thanks for passionately caring about our games, but no"? that said, i do want this, but i think online petitions are a complete waste of time.
Sadly I have to agree that petitions do almost nothing. I would like to see this feature and maybe it will come in the future but right now there are other things i rather have honestly. Also some people mentioned MSN and AIM and all that crap. What about Xfire? Supposably they have it in untold legends or whatever. IF they implement that intothe PS3's functionality it would be great. Sure its not AIM or MSN so you dont have that HUGE amoutn fo users but you could chat with your gamer buddies still who own PC's or even who have PS3's
Online petitions may not directly change someones mind no, however it may bring the fact to sony's attention that hey, a lot of gamers want this feature, maybe we should add it soon.

We aren't going against anything they've said. we just want something. This would be helpful when I need to switch between a game board and the game so i can join a game quicker.

Sony does not have an integrated online system and leaves it to the developers. That is why games have their own friend list and sometimes they have none.
