I am one system away from completing my "Next gen" gaming collective. I'm about to trade in my ps2 and eight games which consist of five versions of DDR which i repeat, hold their value extremely well.I'm surei won't get a ton of credit butI have no real alternate as i would love to have backwards compatibility in a PS3but i think it's time move forward. Your thoughts on my loss/gain are appreciated.

Just like you saved up those "other" money from non selling the PS2 to afford a PS3, save up a little longer and you won't have to sell you PS2 if you really want to play PS2 games once you have PS3.

I don't really know what to tell you. As of now both 60GB and 80GB play PS1/PS2 games. If you can't afford them and want to play your old PS games then save a bit more and keep your PS2 Console.

I wish they included the B/C in 399$ version, however it's still a great price for the system regardless.

Just move on to the PS3. That's all I gotta say. Get the PS3 and component cables or HDMI cable, which ever your TV supports(HDMI is best). Sony hasn't hurt you. They've made it possible for you to play very high quality games and BR movies. Once you get the new PS3 games you wont want to play PS2 games any more any way, because the quality is exponentially higher. You can get Star dust HDfrom the PS store for only $7.99. Warhawk is a great online game. There are so many great games coming out this fall and onward, it's awesome.

First of all I have no idea what you're talking about. Proper grammar? Not quite sure what was so non-understandable in my post? (For the record, the grammar was proper).

You said your "lost". Which I presume was because of not being able to play PS/PS2 games on PS3 399% console? I'm wrong?

If not, that was one of the reason I advised you to keep your PS2 since you can't afford the 60GB or 80GB versions which both play older generation.

No joke. I have five versions of Ps2 Dance Dance revolutions and i'm not sure what i'll get for them as trade in but i know they sell at a value close to the "new"/original price. Anyway, the bottom line is this. Loss and lost are not the same words. My entertainment center has one slot left. Right now my PS2 is in it. I don't "need" a Ps3 but i would love to have one to replace my Ps2. I don't want to get rid of my DDR's but space and/or money is becoming an issue. Maybe i'm doing a little complaining because i would love for the $399 system to be backwards compatible to shut me up. For the "You can't afford" comments, kiss A$$. I live in america where most people buy things even when they can't afford them, lol. I'm trying to save space, time and money by making a useful purchase based on the new price drop coming soon.

Understandable, I'm still having PS2 around as I was scared that I won't be able to play FFVII on PS3.

Even though I finished it few times, it's one game that I hold dear as you do DDR. I was a bit sceptical of buying PS3 but after some time I moved on and was pleased that 60GB played it well.

It took me more time to save because I could had sold most of my games and PS2 for good amount of money.

I guess when time comes and you're ready to move on - then it will be a good purchase :)

Well if your thinking its time to move forward then Sony is hopeing everybody else that has a PS2 wants to do the same thing. Now is a good time to do it because theirs games coming out more and more in these coming months and when Sony starts racking in the sales, which I bet they will with the $400 system, then we will get games just as much as the 360 if M$ deost buy everything as an exclusive. I think you should do it. I got my PS3 in July and I LOVE it. Hope to see you upgrade to the PS3. :]

Save up $100 more and pick up a 60gig if you can find out.

Or if you can order online somehow, ebgames.com still has 20gigs in stock for $449.

if you really like those games dont sell them... trade in your ps2 and get one of the 60gb. they just announced a price drop in japan so it may drop like 50 bucks here in the USA. wait until an official announcement and go from there.... but i would definately recommend the 60gb while they are still available.

Lol Trying to move on. It's not some kind of relationship. Just keep it. I've still my PS1...Anyway, either way you work it, you're going to end up being able to play PS2 games for the same price, give or take. Keep the PS2, get the 40Gb, and you save £50 and get to play PS2 games properly. Sell the PS2 for £50 and buy the 60 Gb and play them not so properly.

You only need 100$ to keep your PS2. That's like a day of work for someone who works full time. And that's for a brand new PS2, so how much were you selling your PS2? 50$? That's even less to save for.

totally, you get what you pay for. the 40 gig for 399 is an excellent price, and an excellent deal for what you're getting even without backwards compatability.

if you want b/c go for the 60 or 80gig sku, simple as that.

Sony is facing heavy competition : M$ spreading their dirty money everywhere and Nintendo thinking everibody's an eternal retarded kid (and it works). So they have to make bizarre business decisions, like removing backwards compatibility (which has not been confirmed by official sources and stays a rumor for me). In all cases you're the winner : when the 60Gb is discontinued, the 80Gb will lower to 500$ (keeping backwards compatibility) and the new 40Gb is at 400$ ... not forgetting that Christmas is near and there'll be insane bundles!

1. Never sell to Gamestop

2. Never buy from gamestop

3. Dont sell any of the older games/consoles you enjoy because you will definitely regret it either a month down the road or 4 years down the road.

4. The money will come, just wait.
