for a week now i have been trying to download the 1.81 update and for a week i have been getting a 80710723 error message when trying to get the update. i have tried loading the downloaded update from my pc to my ps3 but the ps3 refuse to use the downloaded file with another error message saying the data is corrupt. i have emailed Sony and the play-station support site multiple times but they have yet to help me saying that i should visit there site for instructions which there are none for this problem. i have tried restoring my play-station and in the process lost games i had purchased for the play-station store and yet the update still will not download. CAN ANYONE PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Try waiting for another update to come along. If not you may have to restore your PS3. I'd wait for the next update though. You'd have to backup and reload everything.
Dam that stinks dude, got no idea do as that kid said google it, did you trythe sony or Playstation forums on their websites? Also what PS3 do you have 20 gig or 60 gig?

call up, at first its an automated message with number choices, if u navigate it just right you will be transfered to a live tech. And guess what, THEY ARE VERY HELPFUL.
You probably knew this, but when you download using a pc, you have to put the update in certain folders. This applies to any media you put the update on whether it be a memory card (60g) or usb drive (20g, 60g). First create a folder named PS3, then inside that folder create another called UPDATE, then put the update into that folder. Again, i'm not sure if you tried this yet, so was just throwing it out there. Good Luck. The error message you describe is the one i get from trying to download on the ps3 using the update feature. I found out the ps3 doesn't like some linksys modems/routers. I put the update on my memory stick pro duo inside those folders listed above and it worked fine. =)

just download them again, you could download them as long as you're using the same account.

Cant you re-download them for free? Aren't the purchases linked to your PSN accound/ id?
as long as u use the same username u used to originally d/l them you can re-d/l for free, you can also sign in on a different PS3 with your name and d/l it onto that ps3 if you want
idk, I've never had an error like this when getting a new system update...
but... sometimes when I sign in, it will give me a DNS error with some other series ofnumbers (different than the problem you have). This is only when I sign in for my online ID. Any1 else have this problem??? It occurs almost everyday... but after a couple tries of signing in, it will work at least.
I just bought my PS3 and it needed an update and I recieved this very same error. I'm running off a D-link wirelessrouter. Wierd thing is, I waited 10 mins thinking the server may have been full, and tried againit started downloading fine. It seemed kind of slow, 15 to 20 mins to download.
