for starter, Sony isnt making the games, other people are. Sony just hasnt backhanded everyone that supported they're previous console by forcing devs to move to the PS3. With over 1 million PS2s out there and the still premium price for next gen its hard to stop it the PS2 that quickly.
Sure there are still games coming out for PS2 but if you think that Dynasty Warriors 6 is a reason to stay with PS2 and not upgrade to PS3 (with MGS4, LBP, Resistance 2, etc), then i really dont know what to say to you.
its a slow transition you cant just cut them off they wouldnt pay for a ps3 bcuz they were forced to from a company that practically disowned them it takes a while soon more games on the ps3 will look too tempting to not buy it which will cause the switch
Sony hasn't given up on the PS2 yet obviously. Like someone posted, there are still a myriad of games coming out for the system. A lot of people still buy the system (new or used, but still). Also Sony sees this because they are releasing a new PS2 bundle that is coming with Lego Batman!
Ps2 is a big profit maker for sony. They want to maintain the fan base for ps2 while they increase the base for ps3. Once the base is big enough to sustain them, they will stop production on ps2 and there wont be games.
you should be getting to the point of realizing that everyone will soon notice that the great, top-notch games are made for the ps3 not the ps2, and thus make the smooth transition to the next gen. its a good idea IMO, to still suport the ps2, while showing those fans that the better games will not be seen on that console anymore.

Yeah, they're not making anymore decent exclusives for the PS2 anymore, nor any multiplats as developers are setting their sites mainly on the newer consoles.

It is a big rumor.This came out when people started to talk about the 40 gig getting BC.Now I am no tech expert but if the 40 gig can't play the PS2 games because of the missing software how would it play them even if you bought them off of the PSN store?It is almost like the XBOX originals,if the game is not playable off of the set list they will never be on the marketplace.In other words if what I say is true then that means people with 20,60 and 80 gigs will be the only ones to be able to play PSN PS2 titles.But as usual I am probably wrong and about to get schooled in the most violent manner.

Lmao, what you said is half true. What they would probably do is just change the bootable file and some other binaries to be allowed to boot up as a PS3 game. Look at bionic commando, that was back in the day but we are able to play it because they tweaked a little something here, and a little something there and tada.
