The new PSP Go is is priced @ about $250, and with no way to convert previously owned UMD discs to become compatible with the Go the product seems rediculous, right ?? Wrong. heres why: No one is dumb enough (i hope) to purchase the new psp go for $250. Sony made the price this high so comsumers will either opt out and purchase the psp3000 series for 50 bucks less, or pitch in 50 bucks more and get the psps slim, THUS increasing sales in either the ps3 or the psp3000 series. This will especially be effective come the Christmas season. Kudos to SonyLpKing
No not at all...that would be a really dumb marketing move. Sony is OBVIOUSLY planning on going all digital at some point and the GO is their guinea pig! How much is an Ipod touch 16gb? 300? How bout a ZUNE 16gb HD? Yea...exactly.
The PSP go is priced accordingly. Would it be better if the Go was 200? yes..it would also be better if the Go was free! But guess what, you pay for what you get. The PSP go has been great so far...It has some great features that the 3000 doesnt have...and it can actually fit into a pocket without feeling like I have a brick hiding in there.
And the PSP Go isnt replacing the 3000...4000 wil eventually come out.
the PSP go is classified on the box as PSP-n1000
And the trend continues. If you dont like it, dont get it...plain and simple. Its for people who want to switch to an all digital MINI gaming device. If you're happy with your game gear sized PSP, then so be it! It has the same games so its not that much of a difference...The size is the biggest factor for me. Its smaller than my FRIGGIN WALLET! And thats a MINI Laptop mouse...not a full sized mouse!
Sony wants to keep UMD alive because they invented the tech, and they get royalties when people buy 'em.
By introducing a shocking price point with the all digital GO!, many users will simply hang on to UMD and only buy that.
Users who opt for GO! pay premium prices for digi downloads.
win, win for sony.
More money in Sony's pocket.
Did anyone really think Sony didn't think this whole launch through? They are SO SMART!
The biggest reason I didn't buy a (really...really sexy) white GO at launch is the premium prices they want to charge for digital copies of games. Charging full price is stupid...and I could never get my discount on games either. :3

See, thats reasonable. I never buy used games, EVER...so that was out of the question for me anyway. Plus so far the game prices on PSN aint so bad...Disgaea for 15 bucks, cant really beat that.
I think people who initially bought the GO will have a bad realization come a year. It looks great, feels great now, but after a few months, or a year and you have all these games and you can't sell them or trade them, you'll realize that you're stuck with these things. On the other hand, at least those with the UMD version can sell and trade their games.

Why would I want to sell or trade my games? Its like anything in life...I bought a 40" Sony Bravia LCD...Why would I want to trade it or sell it? I never ever trade my used games because you get RIPPED off big time...so at least with the Go, I know the games I buy I'll have for as long as I own the system. Win/Win for me. I despise gamestop and their policies anyway...lol
Trade in's should NEVER EVER make or break why you buy a system. Ever.

New games can be bought for less than their launch price after they've been out for a few weeks. Most stores start discounting prices after two weeks. That new game you want, but didn't buy on day one, will be much cheaper in store than it will be on PSN. The download prices will stay high for much longer than two weeks.
Plus, here in the UK, most games on PSN can be found brand new on UMD for much cheaper. Even new releases.
When you go to buy a new game now, do you get the UMD or the digital copy?LongZhiZi
Before, it would've probably been "whatever's cheaper" or just the UMD due to physical ownership. But now? I think a lot of users will consider digital copies even if they have an older model PSP simply because they won't want to lose their collection in the future.
Now Sony's making more money since you're purchasing through their store and not Best Buy.
I don't think your theory makes much sense but I will say that Sony is very brave for making a portable console that only provides downloadable games. I'm sure many people will prefer this method of buying games and that although I think the price of the PSPGO is unacceptable, it could do well.

True, but that's only on sale for awhile. It's going back to 30 soon. Most fo the NIS games are 50% off right now. That theory makes absolutely no sense.
Sony released the PSPgo so that people would look at the price and go 'no, I'll buy an older PSP or PS3 slim instead'? If they wanted an older PSP or a PS3, they would buy it anyway. With or without the release of the Go and it's high price.
And obviously Sony DOES want people to buy the Go. They wouldn't waste their money developing and mass producing a handheld that they thought wouldn't sell...
He got this from Joystic. There was an article on some Sony's Claire Blackhouse talking about it. Furthermore, she says that retailers see the console launch this week as a "way of getting people into the store," that those not able to afford the new hardware will "aspire to it" and "might buy the PSP 3000 instead." Thats where this thread owner probably saw this. Anyways while that does mae sense, that is NOT why Sony made the Go.DarkMaster7991ive actually never seen this article, but at least im not the only one who notices the theory NOT sony's MAIN reason for relasing the PspGo, btu @ the price their asking for, my theory makes sense

Poor analogy. And sorry, but the ability to recoup a portion of or a certain amt of my money for games I have bought SHOULD be a big part of buying a system. A game is nothing like a tv, nothing like a stereo, nothing like a car, etc...games, movies are software pieces, and as such, they can and alot of times do get boring after a while. Granted, you can tell yourself that you just spent 20-40 bucks on a digital copy of a game or movie that you love, but you are stuck with it forever. You will more than likely get tired of it, or beat it to the point their is no sense in keeping it, since you have got all pojts, reached all objectives, etc...Sorry, you are stuck with it b/c you d/l it and paid a premium price for it. On the other hand, you buy the umd version fo the game, or the actual dvd/bluray version of the movie, and you beat the game after a few months or year, you watched the movie to death after a few years maybe. What next? The game has lost its appeal now and you dont really see the point in keeping it and let it sit there and collect dust when you can trade it in for something. Unless PSN were to charge atleast 5-10 dollars less on the digital dwnld version of a game/movie, then there is really no point in going the digital route right now, unless you just dont mind having the game/movie forever b/c you think you will play it till kingdom come. Please Log In to post.
