kuturagis vision was always to make a network based cpu he finally did it but teh network is not here yet

kuturagi is moving to the network side man imagine 5 years later microsoft releases xbox720 and sony stays with the ps3

they dont announce a new ps they unlock the 8th spe with a firmware update and announce a network where every ps3 in the world will be connected with eachother to a huge blade server for MASSIVE COMPUTER POWER...

we send cell power to the blade server and the blade  server send us game data back

and we will have something like this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLte5f34ya8

imagine 20.000000 ps3 connected together OMG the possibilities....

The good news would be you would have a power console IF it was possible. There isn't the majority of people with a bandwidth that could handle this so it would be infeasible. The bad news is that what about the millions of other ps3 owners who don't have a broadband connection. How are they suppose to play the games that is meant for the super computer connections. They would be out of luck.

They cannot push such an idea "assuming" everyone would have broadband. There is too many occasion where you could not have access. Internet crash and cannot play? No way. And people in remote place with still 56k access? what about if you are not home and don't have access?

I can maybe see that in like MMO where you pretty much need a good connection and everyone need internet access. For casual games. I don't see that coming, even in 10 years. It would reduce the consumers base way too much

Agree.

Technically I just do not see it being feasible.  So you are sitting at home and you want to play a game. A screen pops up and says, "Sorry, 4039 PS3s need to connect till you can play."

It  does't work like that. It's not an all-or-nothing thing.
You opt in. If you want the extra power. You can connect. If you don't connect then you play like you always do in stand-alone mode. Like now.

Think bittorrent.

Again, the broadband connections available to us is not capable of transferring the data packets to and from the ps3 unless you want to play in 2fps. For game applications it's not feasible. I can go into the technicals since a buddy of mine works for a company that monitors the network inferastructure of the east coast but it would be a waste of time.

My example is along the lines of a game requiring all this additional CPU power to play.  How would something that required all this power to play be able to run on one PS3.

Bittorrent is for downloading files from across a network from multiple users, thus sharing the workload of the download. This, in and of itself, is not the same as sharing the CPU power require to run a game.  Thus, say a game required 5000 PS3s to be connected.  If only 4000 people were playing and on the network you would still need 1000 more.

So you have to get a good internet connection to have the full "fun" of the game? An programmer will make 2 games (downgraded version?)? one if you play alone and 1 if you play connected? and maybe others if oh! we have more than 2000 consoles! lets make the the game better! Oh now we have 10 000! even better! So we never have the full game? Like I said I see that possible "maybe" in MMO where you have always thousands of people connected and requires a connection to play. Otherwise I don't see that comming anywhere near.

Unless they want to alienate both developers because their job will be harder/more costy and gamers because we won't ever have the max we can get out of it and many people won't even be able to benefit out of it

Well that would mean the PS3 will gain massive CPU power but be stuck with an old GPU so all the CPU power in the world isn't going to change that.

Hi-speed internet is soooooooooooooooo slow compared to how fast data transfers in your processor and RAM. I don't see how networking PS3s over long distances will be fast enough to make your PS3 run faster. ..Or maybe I just read your post wrong, but thats what you are proposing right?

Another thing.. the video you posted has only one output. 3 PS3s to one output. If 10,000 people wanted to connect to a server for "massive power" as you say, then it it would have to be less than 10,000 players plaing.. because it would be 1 PS3 to every 1 person otherwise, which is what you are playing now.

READ MY POST MAN It's not a matter of getting a good connection, which by the way won't be able to transfer the data packets for this super computer, it's a matter of people affording a internet connection. This little world you live in on the internet is no representation of the REAL world. Out of the couple million of people who have a broadband connection, there's BILLIONS without one. It will always be like this unless the government enforces the citizens to install a broadband connection in their homes.

Ya.. the biggest issue is that the data packets like you said would have to transfer much much faster than what is capable in DSL or Cable interent across the U.S.

This may or may not be on topic, but this has been in the works for a long time 7+ years

i don't know how long it took the orignal internet to be brought up

but from what i remember internet2 is running a 1gb/sec

http://www.internet2.edu/network/

which may or may not be fast enough for this supposed theory to be implamented.

i just think its funny how almost everyone on here, either is a game developer, works for Sony or Microsoft, or their brother's best friends sister's boyfriend's dad's brother monitors the entire Internet infrastructure on the east coast.

[QUOTE="higherARC"]The good news would be you would have a power console IF it was possible. There isn't the majority of people with a bandwidth that could handle this so it would be infeasible. The bad news is that what about the millions of other ps3 owners who don't have a broadband connection. How are they suppose to play the games that is meant for the super computer connections. They would be out of luck. higherARC

you really think 5/6 years later people will still using 65k modems ?

Do you really think in 5/6 years and even later every human being in the world will even have 65k modems. Not that many people have access to the internet buddy. Welcome to the real world.

okay here the deals sucks for pplz without a ps3 and super fast connection and yes i really do think 5/6 yrs from now almost nobody will use 56/k crap i mean everybody i kno has a really fast connection and with pplz that dont they dont have internet period this is the age of wifi cell phones and just crazy technology and its only advancing too

story: you guys might have been too young to remember but in my time the world wasn't controled by ps3. We were able to do almost wat we wanted to do, up until Ken connected all those ps3 together and then it all started... million ppl die because of the plastation 3 and it's deadly sixaxis controler.

put the terminator theme song and there you have wat's gong to happen in a few years lol

OMGOMGOMG I WAS GOING TO SAY THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAH BRILLIANT BLODDY **** ING BRILLIANT!!!!!!

Are you Sarah Connar?

Seriously Kutiragi is thinking it all out. Massive networking seems to be a great step forward, revolutionary, not what I expected. It could be like a rebirth of what video games are supposed to be.

But I'm still waiting for the Virtual Reality goggles and walk pad. :P

My prediction is that the unused SPE is reserved for some type of Tivo or PVR function but I doubt that it will ever be utilized.

kuturagis vision was always to make a network based cpu he finally did it but teh network is not here yet

kuturagi is moving to the network side man imagine 5 years later microsoft releases xbox720 and sony stays with the ps3

they dont announce a new ps they unlock the 8th spe with a firmware update and announce a network where every ps3 in the world will be connected with eachother to a huge blade server for MASSIVE COMPUTER POWER...

we send cell power to the blade server and the blade  server send us game data back

and we will have something like this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLte5f34ya8

imagine 20.000000 ps3 connected together OMG the possibilities....

Ok, guys. I've read the article again.... And I spoke too soon. I didn't read it carefully before. Here's the gist of it.
Ken is not taking about super-clusters for gaming in regards to the PS3 now. He talking about a vision for the PS3 for certain applications. One being the cluster, where  you hook up multiple PS3 in order to do cool things with real-time rendering. The other demo is used to showcase what the PS3 can do if grouped. For R&D this is a good thing as far as showing off the capability. Other things he talked about is the future of networking computing (PS3, PS4, PS5). He see this future. It will get faster, more distributed, and broader. Yes, one day we'll have Gigabit to the home. And that's where this vision can take off. As we stand now the 6Mbp - 16Mpb is not enough. What about today, you ask? They can do some great things in regards to HOME because that is a centralized "world" where graphics can be rendered and used by groups of people around the world. This is not about a single player game since each game is loaded on each PS3 and really wouldn't be much benefit since we have slow connections. But the Playstation HOME distributed computer can be some help if certain algorithms can be developed to assist in rendering while on the HOME network. We'll have to wait and see if this is taken advantage of. We don't know how many dynamic objects will be in the HOME "world." But it's going to be interesting to see. At least the vision is there. Sony is taking the console to a whole new level. It's good to be a gamer today.
Stay tuned....

1) I'd take Bluetooth any day of the week over proprietary headsets that have to be plugged into a controller. The problem isn't with the Bluetooth connection. It's PSN's implementation of Bluetooth headsets. Which I imagine should be greatly enhanced by the time Home rolls around (according to the Home trailer)

2) You can't rent BluRay? Blockbuster and Netflix both have large selections of BluRay movies. Where are you renting from? Podunk R Us?
