Sony managed to sell 1.2 million PS3's in Europe alone over Xmas

Wow that is HUGE:shock:

The anouncement came straight from the mouth of the man, Kaz Hirai.

I reckon Sony is close to 10 million PS3's sold and is pretty likely to meet that sales target of selling 11 million by March 08 (End of fiscal year)

Great for a console which had a lacklustre 07, No doubt this year will be whole lot better games & sales wise.

Oh and how many PS3's did Sony sell in America & Japan ?

It's a good start. I have a feeling things will be better in 08.

Not really that good considering that many the PS3 came out soooo late in europe and how expensive they were here so the fact it was christmas plus a huge price drop should have got even more sales this is after all Sony land.

To improve sales we need a game about the queen and how amazing she is and how about replacing normal health pickups in games to cups of tea? for us brits at least

No dount it will be better dude, no doubt. PS3 has better games & features as well as a better price point to do MUCH better then it did in 07.

Dude PS3 launched even later in Europe yet is doing better then it's doing in America. Spin it how you like but the fact is 1.2 million in a month is fantastic especially considering 07 was lacklustre for PS3. This year PS3 will have the established titles as well as great new features to do waaay better then 07. Also remember 1.2 million is only in Europe, combine it with sales in Americe & Japan over Christmas and that's how much PS3 sold over Xmas worldwide. I assume PS3 is close to 10 million sold and will indeed meet it's target of 11 million by March 08

wii is still selling heaps but im just saying that the ps3 outs sold it during the xmas time in japan....its what i read in te ps3 magazine........info from the net doesnt mean its always right if it in a magazine it has to have truth because there risk involved if giving in accurate information.

However, I can't prove that to you with a link to official numbers because they don't archive those weekly sales figures as far as I know. So you either have to believe me, when I say the Wii sold a lot more according to official numbers or check vgchartz which, despite their numbers not being totally accurate at all, show the big picture of the Wii severely out selling both other consoles (and the PS2). Besides, if it actually were true, you'd think it would've been posted somewhere.

still... there are like 550 million people in the EU alone isn't there? They still have some work to do...

plus, there are still the people outside of the EU in Europe (about 250-300 million)...

Dude are you expecting every single person in Europe to have PS3 before we claim it successful :? Not every single person is a gamer or remotely interested in games you know, You make it seem that PS2 flopped because it didn't reach those 550 million people considering it only sold over 40 million in EU. 40 million is awesome dude !

PS3 will hae a long life span and most people will jump on board for PS3 when the price point is at around £200. I myself haven't bought one yet but definitely will when MGSA4 is released in June. PS3 is doing better in Europe then any other territory and this will get even better this year, also worldwide.

Who said it did? Also consider, retailers purchase relative to end-consumer demand.
