Why did Sony allow God Eater 2 to be developed for the PSP. God Eater is a game that could spike Vita sales, but Sony blew its chance. I wanted this handheld to do well, but Sony keeps shooting itself in the foot again and again.

Fear not.
I kind of get why Sony does not want to drop support for the PSP due to the large fanbase in Japan, but if God Eater 2 was exclusive to the Vita, then a lot of people that bought the PSP would buy the handheld. Dragon's Crown is another game that should have been a Vita exclusive. Sony needs to get SEGA to make a Yakuza game for Vite. That would help sell the system. A port of a four year old Wii game is not going to get systems off shelves. Phantasy Star Online 2 is impressive for the platform, but then again, the Japanese are not really into online that much.
God eater 2 was being made way before the vita even released so it is too far along for them to start from scratch. Plus this has nothing to do with Sony, as namco the publisher decides what platform this game goes on.Ghost120x
My point is that Sony should have abandoned the PSP and so that developers would go for the Vita. With the PSP still in action, no one will ever see great things on the Vita from third parties. Why develop for a platform no one has, when there are 70 million PSP's out there. Software sells systems. Persona 4 helped spike sales a little and the same would have been said if God Eater 2 was exclusive to the Vita.
So if Sony stopped selling PSPs, you think every PSP developer would instantly move over to the Vita? (assuming that's what "abandoning the PSP" means...) Who's to say they wouldn't simply move to the 3DS, which is arguably more similar to the PSP? Abandoning the PSP just wouldn't make sense for Sony. It still makes them money, and it needs such money to be able to push the Vita off. And Sony itself is doing what it can. None of its first-party studios are actually developing for the PSP anymore.Granpire
If the developer of the game did not want to develop for the Vita, then why is there a Vita version? If the developer was not interested in the Vita, why isn't God Eater 2 just a PSP game? In order for new hardware to sell, in needs exclusive games that people are interested in. Keeping the PSP around only gives the impression that there is no reason to buy a Vita. The same thing happened with the PS3. Sony kept the PS2 around and third parties chose to keep developing for last generation. This is why the 360 library looks so big. Microsoft cut off the orignal Xbox and forced developers into moving to the 360. Since the system had games, people went out and bought it. Sony is giving people no reason to buy a Vita with PSP still around. The developers of God Eater could have still made the same game. It is not like anyone is saying that they need to use the maximum power the Vita has inside of it.
