Like anything would support 4k already(I could be wrong), and 80 inches is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too big.

I'm sure there will be a 4K movie format to correspond with the 4K televisions. Many movies are already shot 4K or above digitally, and even old movies shot on 35mm film could benefit if the film is in good enough shape (and some of the 1960's epics were shot on 65mm film, so even at 1080p they are being constrained by the digital resolution) It would also be pretty cool to have a huge 4K display for a HTPC system to play games and even do routine computer tasks (i.e. hell with 24" desktop screen). Although I agree 80" is a little large. I'm guessing as prices come down people will adopt and bigger screens will become the norm. If 42" was the norm 5 years ago, 50" is probably the norm now. Hell I remember when 32" was the biggest screen you could possibly have unless you went projection...

Oh of course. Blu-Ray isn't the highest quality whatsoever. 1920x1080 is nothing. Actual film, which technically doesn't really have a resolution, is way bigger than Blu-Ray. So in that case, 4K movies are very possible. They just need to launch a newer format. 4-Ray?

At least, that's my understanding of film.

Where do you think is the first place Sony will advertise? No different than them using the PS3 to try and push 3D TV's.

Sony's a movie studio as well, so I'm sure there will be a supply of 4K movies coming out.

hmmm sorry to burst your bubble and if you just research 4k, blu ray isn't a format which is just restrained to hd as dvd was. The only reason dvd was bad was because of how much you could store on the disc, it had a limit. nor is blu ray a highest quality whatever, it's a format which has alot of storage, it does not restrain itself to only go up to 1080p, thats just because tv's and films are made to that spec for wider audiuences, if you actually knew, you'd know that sony's latest blu ray players are already set up for 4k movies. here's the proof

i hope this helps you all

And Sony and it's customers wonder why their not doing so well financially. Similar to 3D, 4k will be pushed, but will not amount to anything. Do they really think people are going to purchase 80inch + tv(which is the min. size to see any difference with 4k)?

The first plasma I ever bought was a Panny at the cost of thirteen thousand dollars for fourty two inches and a display of 480p. I wanna say that was back in 97-99.

Sony pushes tech further ahead before any other company and every non Sony fan bashes them. But then you see the Xbox slowly adopt all the tech that Sony puts into their systems. Why? Because it's better!!! Stop bashing and being negative about every great tech Sony creates. It's positive, great, and moves things ahead in a positive direction.

In time the cost will come down a lot just as HDTVs have.
