I have another post about this, but I had forgotten to put this aspect in. Along with the PSP being very expensive, it is not a good "portable" system strictly because of the fact that it is not very portable. I will list the reasons why.

1. It is too big. While you are able to fit it into a deep pants pocket, it certainly cannot be called comfortable to carry around.

2. It is too fragile to carry around, especially in a pocket. The screen scratches very easily. Not only that, but the unit is also easily broken.

3. The load times suck. When you have a portable, you want something that you can just pick up and play quickly. If you are on the bus, train, car ride, etc., depending upon the game, by the time it loads, you may be to your destination.

4. Lots of people want them, so they are easily stolen. It's not exactly something that you would want to whip out on the subway and start playing. People know how expensive they are, and that they are popular. It could be quite risky playing one of these on the subway, just like it was with the Ipods.

I just stick my PSP in my back pocket and it is pas portable as any ohter portable system. I have dropped, kicked, scratched, accidently sat on so on and so forthy my PSP and it is still in fantastic condition, so it is hella durable. IF it was so easily breakable, mine should have broken long ago, but it didn't.

What the hell did you expect from a DISC BASED PORTABLE SYSTEM. Any system that is disc based will have poad times. That is a fact. The load times don't suck either. They jsut cvary in length from game to game

That last reason is just pleading and begging. "Lots of people want them so tehy are easily stolen" What?! People on a friggin sub way can't just grab it and run. Where are they going to run to? THEY ARE IN A TRAIN CAR.

Long story short, the PSP isan awesome handheld system

I got a soft pouch with my original psp, it protects it just fine

It fits in all my pockets allright, and my bag has a useful pocket on the back that fits it just right and has a hole for the headphones to come out

The thing is a tank. Im sorry, but with all the things i managed to do to mine (both intentional and unintentional) im surprised it lasted 2 years.

The load times depend on the game. But if there isnt time to bring it out and do something, i just listen to music or watch some of whatever movie i have on it at the time. Tbh, if youre going somewhere in a car or bus you should have time to start something, no game has load times of more than say 2 minutes to get into the game. Also, you could try playing it before hand, and putting it to sleep ready to go again once youre ready - i mean, thats what its for, duh.

As for it getting stolen... well dude, if they get taken out of your hands at the subway, remind me never to go wherever you live! Theres no crime like that here in nz. Oh and thats not a reason its not a good portable device. It has nothing to do with it. Its a problem with the place you live in.

Oh and the guy who said you could make a portable ps2... go on, try it. Then compare it to a psp. You might be surprised.

1. It's pretty portable despite it's wider size. You have to figure it has a bigger screen than anything out there right now and if it were smaller then how much better would it be to use for other media you might want to play on it? If you're not using it for that, then fine, but I do and it does those things very well.

2. It doesn't break easily. I can say that it's outlasted being borrowed several times and way out lasted my two year extended warranty from Circuit City. If you had one that did break, then I do feel bad for you. I know it blows when something breaks and the budget doesn't support replacing it. But I think the overal design of it was pretty well made.

3. Load times are crummy, I have to agree with you on that. At least they seemed to address that in the later version.

By the way, have you tried the LocationFree features on it? TV is really awesome and streams beautifully. I also use TwonkyMedia to stream music to it through the RSS Feeds.

I have a PSP slim, and i don't carry around in my pocket. That and i don't take it out of the residents of my house. Since i just buoght it i don't want to screw it up already - scratched up my last PSP, not bad. Mildy. - So now i'm just waiting for a carrying case for the slim, then i'll move it around. And where i live there are no subways. I use to play my old PSP outside, and i live in what you would call - The Ghetto. - And i've walked pass many people, while i was playing and it never got stolen. So i dont' know what your talking about. oO;
