Here's the article from GameInformer Online.

"Newport Beach, California company Parallel Processing Corporation have filed a lawsuit against the electronics giant for the Cell's ability to perform "synchronized parallel processing with shared memory" - a patent that the International Parallel Machines of New Bedford, Massachusetts got the rights to in 1991, in which the Parallel Processing Corporation says its "exclusive licensee."

The complaint filed in Texas on July 26 claims that Sony infringes on this patent, while it doesn't specify exactly how, it states that the company is being monetary damaged. The company is seeking to recover these said damages, fees plus interest, and the impounding and destruction of all Sony products that infringe on this patent. Ultimately stating, people must destroy their PS3s."

This is probably one of the funniest lawsuits I've ever read.

Hmmm....How would some of you guys destroy your PS3s? I don't have one, but I would probably have itsmashed to bits and pieces with a 360's powerbrick and a Wiimote.

Do they or did they even have the components to make the product for which they have a patent for? Since 1991 components that went into cell are sure to be difference than what they drew up. Unless their patent is just an idea, but I thought to have a patent you have to have some kind of working prototype. Kinds seems like a lose-lose for them maybe why they don't say exactly how Sony infringed on their patent. I guess they are still try to figure out how to try and swindle money from Sony.

swindle seems like the ideal term....

notice how there's always some greasy creep waiting to capitalize on success with some lawsuit? now, a lot are legit....this....hmmmmmmm........the thing that makes it seem so bogus is demanding we destroy the console! no problem....just reimburse all who've spent money on it i say....do they even have HALF of that amount of money???? NO! but they hope to get it with this bogus lawsuit!

if forced with the option, i'd gut it and sell the parts individually

would never want to do that though (pretty sure I won't have to)

unless M$ buys that no name company and tries to push the lawsuit deeper...but even if thats the case, its still inhumane for all gamers...besides, its not just Sony that implemented the CELL, Toshiba and IBM participated, and that makes three of them, which is way more than one.....odds are pretty low for somethin to happen....XP

They might aswell goto England for this and hear "Boohoo, Sony hurt us too with Resistance" so they can ban together and give a world wide "WAAAAHHHHH" for a foolish lawsuit that doesn't even have merit.

No stupid nerds are going to force me to do anything and their claims are laughable, especially their "demands". Losers...

Yeah exactly. 1991 we were running calculators compared to today. The US government didn't even have that kind of power or technology to produce such a thing at the time for their super computers. No sector had this, it wasn't even possible. I mean sure, maybe 1998 I would say possibly with the most advanced government equipment or whatever in the world. But not 1991, sorry. We weren't even on 256 megs of RAM then.

you should read th patent, its 5 million something. Its like it was written by a kid, only that in late 80s early 90s. I guess this company will have serious problems, especially when they are addressed by why did they took one of the implementers and not the whole group, which includes IBM. I guess everyone feels as lucky as that rumble company (cant remember the name lol)

I wrote this earlier, it might give many here an idea of why patents are not actually that good.

"The patent laws are something that economist all over the world are trying to get rid of. Most of them have been filed for things they dont have, and they patent a proccess (imagine that they patented how you can go to the bathroom to crap, and it can be done). Economist want to change them because they give to many advantages to those who filed them, and for a long time (some are for 99 years, so imagine that). This is what happens when a company files a proccess in the past. They patented this proccess way before the technology even existed, but now its been used and the dispute starts.

This is why as I said, economist are trying to get rid of them, but as they also grant income for the goverments, they will be harder to kill than bad grass."

Think thats funny check this out :

http://www.n4g.com/industrynews/News-55872.aspx

For those to lazy to click it reads

"Oddly enough, Sony's own patent, filed in 2001 and issued in 2007 actually lists the 1991 patent as a citation. In other words, Sony's own patent lawyers have already seen the old patent and deemed it not to be a treat, and the U.S. Patent Office apparently agreed when it issed Sony the patent in June."

Obviously nothing will happen, nobody is going to be made to destroy their PS3, that's just ludicrous.

Even if this company had a case against Sony, nothing would come of it. Sony would just use all the legal tricks to waste time, by which time we will all have a PS4 or the other company will have gone bankrupt because it cannot afford to sustain it's legal fees. And even IF none of that happened and Sony felt they would lose, they would just settle out of court wouldn't they?

I have to agree with the OP that this is one of the funniest and most ironic stories that I have ever heard. Sony is so for the protection of their patents, then they might have infringed on someone else's patents and they are getting slammed/threatened for doing that.

In all reality though, this is another example of a patent that SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN ISSUED! They should only allow patents on an actual product or whole piece of software such as an OS or wordprocessing program, not these piecemeal 'theory' or whatever idiotic patents.

Hmmm....How would some of you guys destroy your PS3s? I don't have one, but I would probably have itsmashed to bits and pieces with a 360's powerbrick and a Wiimote.ZeroWil

I'd smash it over the head of the president of the company suing them. Then I'd sue him for emotional distress at the loss of my PS3. 2 million seems about fair.

EDIT: I've thought about it. Let's make that 30 million, which I'll use to buy out the company and then fire everyone. That would be a good day.
